McWashington: McNugget Resembling George Washington Sells For $8100

A three-year-old Chicken McNugget from McDonald’s has just sold for more than $8,000 on eBay. Let me repeat that. The McWashington, a fried piece of pink slime chicken paste that slightly resembles George Washington, just sold for $8,100.

As ridiculous as that sounds, at least the money is going to a good cause. The Associated Press reports that Rebekah Speight of Dakota City, Nebraska, sold the McNugget in order to raise money for a Summer Church camp in Sioux City. Speight says that the sale of the McWashington will help about 50 kids go to Summer camp.

Speight discovered the McWashington Nugget after a visit to McDonald’s over three years ago. One of her children ordered McNuggets but apparently had too much respect for historic chicken to eat the McWashington Nugget. Speight then stashed the valuable piece of presidential chicken in her freezer.

She tried to sell the piece of chicken last year but eBay had the auction taken down because it violated food safety regulations. eBay later changed its mind since the money from the sale would be going to a good cause. eBay reinstated the auction after sending Speight an email saying that they were “willing to make exceptions to help your cause.”

No word on who the buyer is or what they plan to do with the three-year-old chicken McNugget.
