The 2015 Corvette Z06 convertible will be the first of its kind produced straight out of the factory since 1963, when the last time one convertible was ordered. And already it’s stacking up to be the new dream car for many a Chevy fan.
In a related report by The Inquisitr , if the 2015 Corvette is a dream, then a nightmare would be when a sinkhole opens up under the Corvette museum and swallows a long list of classic Corvettes, including a ZR1 Blue Devil Corvette. Fortunately, they were able to recover these marvels of the auto world, and the whole thing was caught on video.
The last generation Corvette Z06 was only available from the factory as a coupe, but the Corvette 427 convertible was essentially a Z06 where it counts. General Motors will be showing off the new 2015 Corvette convertible at the New York International Auto Show next week, but they decided to let slip some of the major details ahead of time. Mark Reuss, head of GM’s global product development, released a statement for the 2015 Corvette:
“The Z06 Convertible is a world-class supercar in every sense. Only a handful of convertibles in the world bring more than 600 horsepower and 600 pound-feet of torque. Even fewer can match the advanced technologies, aerodynamic design, and visceral driving experience of the Z06 Convertible.”
Although exact specifications for the 2015 Corvette engine have not yet been released, it’s believed that we should expect at least 635 horsepower and 645 foot-pounds of torque from its new LT4 6.2-liter supercharged V-8 engine based upon comparisons to the coupe. The 2015 Corvette transmission is expected to provide a seven-speed manual as well as a new eight-speed automatic as an option.
The 2015 Corvette Z06 convertible also matches the coupe in many ways when it comes to external appearances. Based upon the leaked photos, the convertible has the same flared fender arches, carbon fiber accents, and extra cooling pieces as the coupe version. The two models also share the same rear spoiler design and even the interior looks very similar.
The 2015 Corvette release date has not been officially announced but some reports claim that it’s likely the vehicle will be made available in 2014 in limited supplies, with full production set for 2015.
