The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray has improved its EPA fuel rating compared to the company’s 2013 model.

The vehicle comes in six-speed automatic and a new seven-speed manual transmission. The cars automatic setup has been rated at an impressive 16/28 mpg city/highway. That rating is up from last years model with its 15/25 mpg city/highway rating.

The Corvette Stringray offers even better efficiency with a manual transmission rating of 17/29 mpg.

Those numbers are impressive when we consider that the Corvette Stringray is powered by a 455-hp 6.2-liter LT1 V-8 with 460 lb-ft of torque. Chevrolet also offers an optional performance exhaust system that pushes those numbers to 460 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque.

Featured inside the new LT1 engine is an aluminum block and heads, variable valve timing, direct injection, and cylinder deactivation.

In comparison, the 2013 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S with a naturally aspirated 400-hp 3.8-liter flat-six and seven-speed dual-clutch automatic is EPA-rated 19/26 mpg.

The Corvette Stingray still beats out the 2014 Chevrolet Camaro SS (400 hp) which features an EPA-rated 15/24 mpg (automatic) and 18/25 mpg (manual). If you aren’t concerned with burning through fuel and saving the environment the 580-hp 2014 Camaro ZL1 is EPA-rated 12/18 mpg and offers a lower baseline price of $53,345.

As we previously reported the Corvette Stingray pushes out an impressive 12.23-second quarter mile with an average speed of 114.88 miles per hour. That tested timing was arranged by Hennessey Performance and featured the Z51 package and a six-speed automatic transmission.

Here’s the Stingray undergoing performance testing at 1/4 a mile.

If you’re not quite sold on the $60,000 sports car you should check out the Edmund’s side-by-side review of the 2014 Porsche Cayman S and 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stringray:
