2010 NFL Draft in review: Chicago Bears

The last team review to do, and a team that did not have a first or second round pick. The Chicago Bears did not have much to work with, and we have to figure that into how they conducted their draft. Granted their front office has foolishly traded away a number of picks over the last two years. So their first 2010 pick came at 75, and they added a play maker to their secondary in Safety Major Wright. He has good instincts and good character. His coverage skills are a little lax but the Bears feel he fits well at Free Safety.

In the fourth round they added DE Corey Wootton who fell there despite having first round talent because of struggles to come back for a 2009 knee surgery. If he regains the form he showed as a junior at Northwestern this is an absolute steal, if not he may end up being a guy in the D line rotation. They picked up DB Joshua Moore in the fifth round, QB Dan Lefevour in the sixth, and OT J’Marcus Webb in the seventh round.

All in all I have to say they were pretty good picks, they may not have addressed their primary needs, but with no picks in the first two rounds that is to be expected. With that said here is a quick look at the initial grades for their 2010 Bears draft class:

• Round Three – B, Wright is a big hitter, but needs some work in coverage • Round Four – B+, I like Wootton and he gets to learn from Julius Peppers •Talent- A, they scored a number of guys who could one day become very fine NFL players •Need- C, Their O line needed work, and they failed to add a Wide Out •Average- B
