Madonna Orders Real Bullfighting Gear For Upcoming Tour Despite Critics

Spain is admittedly a major home to bullfighting, but many Spaniards are turning against what they call a horrendous “sport.” Despite this, Madonna has thoroughly upset animal protection critics by ordering official bullfighting gear for her upcoming tour.

According to a recent poll, around 70 percent of Spaniards no longer attend bullfighting and many think it is a brutal sport. However, Madonna doesn’t care. Now her critics are accusing her of glamorizing the controversial sport.

She has gone ahead and ordered two custom-made “trajes de luces” (suits of light), the traditional cropped jacket of the bullfighter, from a tailor in Spain. Oh yes, and despite her recent quite literal fall from grace from the stage, as reported on the Inquisitr, she has ordered a brand new cape too.

The tailor is situated in Zaragoza in Northern Spain and has made two full “trajes de luces” for Madonna, which she will wear during the upcoming Rebel Heart tour. She also ordered a new cape as well as several matador-related items for her backing dancers.

While the news is now out there, apparently the company was forced to sign a confidentiality agreement about the costumes, and they also made some unique alterations from the normal costume. Normally the jackets are branded with various religious imagery, but Madonna requested they be embroidered with a large “M” instead. No sign of Jesus on her costumes.

Madonna has been pushing the bullfighting theme throughout her recent performances. She will be heading to Barcelona in Spain during November as one stop on her Rebel Heart tour, which happens to be one city in Spain that has completely banned bullfighting.

When it comes to the costumes, PETA UK is not at all impressed and is criticizing the pop star for “glamorizing gore” by using the bullfighting theme in her shows. PETA’s director, Mimi Bekhechi, spoke to the Local recently, saying that “Madonna has clearly lost her footing with outfit choices for her tour.”

With particular regard to Barcelona and their ban on bullfighting, Bekhechi pointed out the singer should have some respect.

“If Madonna wants to ingratiate herself to audiences she might consider choreography that reflects something less offensive than imitating a bloody spectacle where an exhausted animal is speared, stabbed and weakened until finally, its spine is severed with a dagger.”

According to Spanish language daily 20 Minutos, Madonna’s agents initially browsed the toroshopping.com website before finding the tailor in Zaragoza and placing their order.

According to Alfredo Roqueta of the tailor company, it took them 12 days, using both “weekends and overtime,” to complete the order.

Initially, the company had no idea who they were making the costumes for. They received the singer’s measurements and went ahead with the work. However, Daniel Roqueta said they are used to working for international customers. In the past, they have designed items for U.S. actress Sara Jessica Parker, who wore a similar jacket on the cover of Smoda.

It now remains to be seen whether Karma will take its course when Madonna appears on the stage in her brand new bullfighting gear. Will she trip and tumble yet again?
