Pee-wee Herman’s follow up to his 1980s hits Pee-wee’s Big Adventure and Big Top Pee-wee is releasing exclusively on Netflix upon completion. Pee-wee’s Big Holiday has been strictly guarded in an attempt to avoid the possibility of leaks and spoilers. However, a huge announcement was revealed in the form of Pee-wee’s holiday partner. Paul Reubens is known for including iconic characters in his Pee-wee movies, as well as his television show, The Pee-wee’s Playhouse , which featured Laurence Fishburne as a joyous cowboy. There is no hint as to whether Fishburne will reprise his role for the new movie, but there are sure to be a multitude of cameos included within.
Other than the excitement of the Netflix original movie, Pee-wee’s sidekick is getting quite a bit of news time as the anticipation builds. According to Deadline , Joe Manganiello of Magic Mike XXL fame will be riding alongside Pee-wee on his big vacation. Manganiello and Reubens are both real-life friends and have kept the movie sidekick secret as long as possible. The secret was let out of the bag when Manganiello showed up on set to begin filming his scenes. The excitement of joining his friend on set was too much for Reubens and he shared his joy in the voice of Pee-wee Herman.
“Joe’s already my friend – and he’s tremendously talented and a terrific person. I am so glad we are finally going to get to work together. This totally makes up for being cut out of Magic Mike and Magic Mike 2!”
Joe Manganiello shared his excitement as well, according to Yahoo! Movies .
“[O]ne of the great comic geniuses of our time, I can’t believe that I’m going to get to share scenes with one of the iconic figures of my childhood.”
According to Netflix, Pee-wee’s Big Holiday’s storyline follows Pee-wee Herman as “a fateful meeting with a mysterious stranger inspires Pee-wee Herman to take his first-ever holiday.”
Childhood fans of Pee-wee Herman will lap up the nostalgia of Pee-wee’s Big Vacation and have the opportunity to share the experience with their children, possibly grandchildren, as Pee-wee Herman graces the screen one more time.
Rumors of a return of Pee-wee’s Playhouse have not been confirmed at this time. However, the popularity of Pee-wee’s Big Vacation may decide the release of future movie installments or a new playhouse.
