‘Minecraft’ Dev Seeks Player Input On Combat Overhaul Coming With Update 1.9

Minecraft fans that have ever thought that they would like to see something different done with the combat mechanics within the sandbox building game now have their chance to have their opinions heard. Mojang is currently in the process of revamping Minecraft‘s combat systems for Update 1.9 and the developer is now asking for player feedback on the process. In a post on reddit, Mojang’s Dinnerbone is now requesting for Minecraft players to share their ideas on how they would like to see the game’s combat evolve.

“Minecraft 1.9 is going to be the combat update. I’m not going to tell you any more about it, but I do want to get your opinions and feedback on combat in Minecraft as it is right now — and hopefully what you think it could be like in your ideal future.”

The developer pointed out that they were aware of the fears that the Minecraft community has expressed after Mojang first proposed that they would be reworking the combat in Minecraft as part of Title Update 1.9 on the PC edition of the block-filled creation title. However, Mojang now wants to reassure fans that the combat overhaul is intended to improve Minecraft and that they aren’t trying to ruin the beloved franchise.

“I’ve had a lot of anxious comments since the 1.9 theme announcement, stuff like ‘they’re just going to ruin it and make it easy’ and then ‘they’re just going to ruin it and make it too hard’, or ‘they’re going to remove spam clicking and remove all skill’ followed by ‘I hope to hell they remove spam clicking’. Basically, lots of worried people who like fighting in Minecraft and want to continue hugging people with weaponry.”

To make sure that the upcoming combat changes will stay in line with what players expect from their Minecraft experience, Mojant wants to include the game’s player base in the process of update the title’s action gameplay. The developer is asking fans to share exactly what they currently like about Minecraft‘s combat so that they know what aspects to focus on.

“I want everybody who cares to tell me what they most like about the current combat mechanics in Minecraft, what you hate the most, what kind of combat you prefer doing and why (killing mobs to survive, team based pvp, custom maps, whatever) and ideally any/all suggestions you have for us to make it more fun.”

Conversely, Mojang is also specifically asking Minecraft users to point out that they don’t like about Minecraft‘s existing combat systems. The developer hopes to be able to fix areas of the game that fans don’t seem to enjoy. Overall the combat redesign isn’t intended to alter the game for the sake of change. Mojang is making their intentions clear that their hope for the update is to give players a more fun and enjoyable experience while playing Minecraft.

“We already have a lot of ideas, some done, some in progress and lots to review, but I still want the feedback from you guys – the ones who are actually going to use it in the end.”

The combat changes for Update 1.9 on Minecraft will follow several quality of life adjustments from the title’s previous update. As reported by the Inquisitr, the last patch for the PC version of Minecraft introduces new ways for players to track their in-game actions.

While Mojang works to improve Minecraft‘s combat, progress continues to also move forward on the title’s Pocket Edition. The developer announced this week that users can now download a new build of the beta release for the Google Play version of the game.
