Mariah Carey’s high profiled publicist Cindi Berger has dropped her as a client. Carey is best known as the “Queen of Pop,” but in underground celebrity gossip circles she has always been known as the “Queen of Shade.” Some believe the “We Belong Together“ singer’s attitude is the main reason behind the split with her longtime Hollywood publicist. Page Six is reporting today that sources told them that Carey and Berger were parting ways, and that Carey would soon be hiring a new public relations team for her brand.
Cindi Berger confirmed that the two would no longer be working together.
“I have enormous respect for Mariah. She is one of the great talents and voices of our time, and I wish her nothing but the best in her future endeavors. I care very deeply for her personally, but I felt that professionally it was time for us to move on.”
Cindi Berger has been Mariah Carey’s publicist for over fifteen years, and has managed to put out the fires, big and small, in Mariah Carey’s life. When Mariah was being accused of stealing songs in the late 1990’s, it was Cindi Berger who handled the accusations. In the end, all of the cases were thrown out of court, and Mariah Carey has always maintained that she has never plagiarized anyone’s songs.
According to Cindi Berger’s bio, she is Chairman and CEO of PMK*BNC Public Relations & Marketing. Named by Business Insider as one of the most powerful Hollywood publicists, Berger has handled all sort of big name celebs, including Robert Redford, Harry Connick Jr., John Legend, Rosie O’Donnell, and Barbara Walters. Cindi Berger has always known that she was born to work in the entertainment industry as a publicist, according to an article by New York Women in Communications.
“I loved going to the movies and seeing Broadway shows. They were my passion and favorite activity,” she says. “I always sensed that entertainment was a direction. I was going to take but it was not until I had the opportunity to study abroad, in my junior year at Ithaca College, and went to the Cannes Film Festival that it all came together. I said to my friend, ‘This is what I want to do.'”
Now with news that Berger has dropped singer Mariah Carey, there is all sorts of speculation about what could have led to the split. Many suspect that Carey’s notorious diva-like attitude kicked in, and Berger just couldn’t deal with it anymore.
The talented and beautiful Mariah Carey has a long history of “throwing shade” and “being difficult” in Hollywood. Back in the 1990’s, a source told The New York Daily News that Mariah Carey was so jealous of a young and up and coming singer named Samantha Cole that she was seen arguing with her producer in the street over rumors that he was dating her. Cole later accused Mariah Carey of actually throwing bits of ice at her at a New York event. Again, her public relations people came to the rescue, telling the press that Mariah never threw ice at Samantha Cole and that she didn’t even know her.
Oh, and about not knowing people. Don’t forget the infamous Mariah Carey-JLO “I Don’t Know Her“ video that circulated years ago. It is probably the best Mariah Carey diva moment of all time. The rumor was Carey couldn’t stand Jennifer Lopez, the big booty Latina who had grown in popularity since her movie Selena. In the clip, Mariah Carey also denies knowing her.
The Inquisitr recently reported that Mariah Carey will star in an upcoming Christmas movie.
