Lionel Messi Injury: Barcelona Confident Of Speedy Recovery, Argentinian Defender Blamed

Barcelona might have to contend without their star player Lionel Messi for a few weeks because his foot injury has failed to substantially heal. However the La Liga leaders are confident he will be fit for their upcoming encounter this weekend, but he might have to start on the bench.

Barcelona are hoping to maintain their four point advantage over Real Madrid in the leader’s table, and their best chance of doing just that will be to beat Celta Vigo on Sunday.

However, the recent injury Lionel Messi received to his right foot hasn’t healed as quickly as the club had hoped, which means that he is still relatively doubtful for the encounter.

Messi injured his foot two weeks ago, but Barcelona aren’t sure if he received the knock when they played Manchester City or Real Madrid. Even though Lionel Messi got through both of these games unscathed, the Argentinian started to really complain about it when he arrived in Washington, D.C. for his national side’s match with El Salvador.

Because of this injury, Messi sat out the entire game, and when Argentina subsequently travelled to New Jersey for their friendly encounter with Ecuador, he decided to simply stay in the American capital as a precaution.

Argentina’s manager Gerardo Martino gave a simple explanation of what was bothering Messi, when he detailed, “There’s no mystery with Messi. He’s comfortable in trainers, but he puts on his boots and its hurts. We don’t want to take any risks on Leo or anyone else.”

In fact, Messi even tried to downplay the extent of his foot injury. After Marca contacted the Argentine ace’s management company, they explained, “If he had a bad injury he would have gone straight back to Barcelona.”

However, they weren’t completely positive in the face of the injury news as they proclaimed, “But it is true it is painful for him,” before they insisted that they would do a number of tests on Messi when he returned to Spain to “evaluate his condition.”

But despite these concerns, Messi’s Barcelona teammate Gerard Pique is confident that he’ll be able to play against Celta Vigo. He told Barcelona’s official website on Wednesday, “I’m optimistic about Messi. I spoke with him and I think he’ll be able to play.”

Meanwhile Manchester City’s Martin Demichelis has been blamed for the injury to his national teammate during the Citizen’s game with Barcelona over two weeks ago.
