Shortly after this year’s WrestleMania ended, WWE released a promo video for next year’s WrestleMania in Dallas, and it suggested that The Undertaker would be performing, possibly for the last time, next year.
PWInsider is reporting that The Undertaker is telling people in WWE that he plans to wrestle at next year’s WrestleMania because he was feeling great after his match with Bray Wyatt. This year’s Undertaker match wasn’t an all-time classic like his matches with Triple H, Shawn Michaels, and CM Punk, and it wasn’t nearly as boring as last year’s match with Brock Lesnar. Undertaker’s health has always been a big question, but “The Deadman” always seems to come around when it’s WrestleMania time.
Apparently, not only is The Undertaker telling people within WWE that he is planning working next year’s show, but he is also suggesting that he works with Sting in what many people are predicting will be a double retirement match. Of course, if the two do end up going head-to-head, it’s likely that Sting will be on the losing end, making him 0-2 at WrestleMania, and unless he works another WWE event in the meantime, he’ll be winless in his WWE career.
Not a whole lot of people expected Sting to lose to Triple H, but now that it looks like Triple H will be taking on The Rock in one of the big headline matches, it makes a bit more sense. Sting said this past Monday on RAW that he was open to doing more stuff with WWE, and that if WWE doesn’t call him again, it will be “a real shame.” While Sting was pondering what was next for him, the audience in attendance began chanting for The Undertaker. Sting paused and acknowledged the chant, but didn’t verbally commit to anything.
Both Sting and The Undertaker are in their 50s, and there is some concern within WWE about the quality of the match if the two face each other, which is why Sting was booked with Triple H this year. Furthermore, Sting isn’t much of a leader in the ring, and it’s unlikely that The Undertaker at this point in his career can carry someone to a good match.
There’s also a chance that both The Undertaker and Sting could be going into the WWE Hall of Fame next year, with The Undertaker almost being a sure thing. While it’s possible that The Undertaker could wrestle after next year’s WrestleMania, most people within WWE are expecting him to hang it up after next year’s event.
