Why Isn’t Kelly Ripa Speaking To Regis Philbin? The Former Co-Hosts Haven’t Spoken To Each Other In Years

In an interview with Hoda Kotb aired via SiriusXM satellite on March 25, Regis Philbin confessed that he has not seen his former co-host Kelly Ripa since he left the show in November 2011.

Philbin and Ripa hosted the show Live! With Regis and Kelly for ten years, but when asked how often he sees or speaks to Ripa, Philbin replied, “I haven’t seen her. I don’t see her. She lived downtown and now I hear she’s on the Upper East Side and, uh, you know.”

Taken by surprise, Kotb candidly questioned the 83-year-old talk show legend if it was weird and if it bothered him. Philbin answered that it doesn’t but asserted that he had a good run with Ripa when they worked together for a decade.

This is consistent with Ripa’s statement two years ago when she also admitted that she had not seen Philbin. At that time in April 2013, she was recognized by The Hollywood Reporter as one of the 35 Most Powerful People in Media.

Philbin and Ripa went through some memorable events together while they worked in the show such as doing a live episode on September 11, 2001. Some found Ripa’s behavior to be “ungrateful” but Philbin refuted saying that she is just “probably busy.”

However, Philbin successfully maintained a friendship with his other former co-host Kathie Lee Gifford. Before the show became Live! With Regis and Kelly, it was Live! With Regis and Kathie Lee. The two worked together for 15 years after first partnering up for the Morning Show.

Philbin shared that he frequently sees Gifford at get-togethers. “She lives in Greenwich and I’m a weekend guy there, so I do see a lot of her,” he told Kotb.

Kotb took the discussion further by asking the former Who Wants to be a Millionaire host which co-host he has clicked the most with. Philbin particularly singled out Mary Hart.

“Hmmm, well you know I didn’t have that many hosts. No, I did have a lot of co-hosts in California as well. Mary Hart. That’s how she got the start in the business,” he said and then joked about how “he made them what they are.”

Kotb was quick to agree with Philbis saying, “Think of all these women who worked with you who became hugely successful: Mary Hart, Kathie Lee Gifford, Kelly Ripa, you made these women! Yes, it’s all Regis Philbin!”
