‘The Challenge’ Renewal: Is MTV Bringing The Show Back For Season 27?

Another season of MTV’s The Challenge is in the books after Sarah Rice and Jordan Wiseley took home the grand prize. While Sarah has participated in the series many times before, this was her first win. It was an intense season, and now fans are left wanting to know whether there is a Season 27 ahead as well. Has MTV renewed or canceled this series?

While the fate of The Real World hangs in the balance, that’s not the case with The Challenge. Season 27 has already been confirmed by the network, notes TV by the Numbers. The network has also indicated that a third season of Are You the One lies ahead as well, and Challenge viewers saw some of those previous contestants pop up in this last battle. Whether viewers like it or not, chances are probably pretty good that additional AYTO contestants will show up in the next Challenge run as well.

It’s great news that The Challenge will be back for another season, but what can fans expect in terms of format? That much isn’t known at this point, but many are already speculating. Will the next season be a fresh take on a previously done format, such as what has been done with the “Battle of the Exes,” “Rivals,” “Gauntlet” or “Duel” seasons? Or, can MTV shake things up with a new set-up?

There’s plenty of buzz about Season 27 over at the Vevmo forum, and it sounds like the next season is in the early stages of casting. Some would love to see another “Battle of the Seasons” or perhaps some type of co-ed “Rivals” scenario. There are fans who would love to see a strong large group team battle and others who are craving something that plays more on individual strengths or a fresh type of duo grouping.

So far, it’s not known what the theme will be, where it will be filmed, or when it will premiere. MTV has said that Season 27 of The Challenge will consist of 12 one-hour episodes. Anything beyond that is still in the speculation stage.

How many truly old school players will return and how many newbies will get their first shot at the big prize? The Challenge spoiler fans spend this off-season scouring social media for hints about the casting and eliminations and it looks like it’s time to start another round of speculating and tracking.
