Cristiano Ronaldo To Pick MLS Over Manchester United Transfer?

Cristiano Ronaldo is allegedly considering transferring to the MLS when his contract at Real Madrid comes to an end.

The Portuguese forward’s current deal at the Bernabeu will come to an end in 2018. And a variety of reports alleged that Ronaldo will leave the Spanish capital when it does just that.

But rather than moving back to Manchester United, where Ronaldo played between 2003 and 2009, it has been reported that Ronaldo is instead interested in transferring to the United States.

Sports Illustrated, via Metro, have reported that Ronaldo is specifically eyeing a possible transfer to either Los Angeles, New York, or Miami.

There has previously been speculation that Manchester United are preparing a $250 million bid for Ronaldo and his Real Madrid teammate, Gareth Bale, which they will make this summer.

However, these rumors have since dissipated because of Ronaldo’s alleged predilection for a move to the United States. These were exacerbated after Ronaldo was seen to be visibly frustrated with his Real Madrid colleagues and the club’s supporters after their recent 4-3 defeat to Schalke in the Champions League.

Cristiano Ronaldo is widely regarded as one of the world’s best soccer players. In fact, the 30-year-old forward was awarded the FIFA Ballon d’Or in both 2013 and 2014, an accolade that he was previously presented with in 2008 as well.

Over the last few years, more and more acclaimed soccer players have decided to move to the MLS. David Beckham was the first mega soccer star to transfer to the league. He arrived at L.A. Galaxy from Real Madrid, and Beckham achieved success at the MLS as he led the club to the MLS Cup championships in both 2012 and 2013.

Thierry Henry followed Beckham to the MLS when he joined New York Red Bulls. The World Cup winner and Arsenal legend played for the Red Bulls for four seasons before he retired from the sport this summer.

Another World Cup winner, David Villa, played his first game for NYCFC earlier this month after his transfer to the team, where he will soon be joined by Frank Lampard. The former Chelsea and England international was purchased by NYCFC last summer before he was then loaned to Manchester City for the entire 2014/2015 Premier League campaign. This has led to a rather fractious relationship with NYFC’s supporters even before he’s kicked a ball.

LA Galaxy also purchased Robbie Keane, who previously played in the Premier League for the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Coventry City, while he will soon be joined by Liverpool icon Steven Gerrard too. However, if Ronaldo did decide to join the MLS, then he would be the biggest star to have ever played in the league.
