Sesame Place, A Love Story: Couple Watching Home Videos Learns They Had Crossed Paths 16 Years Earlier

It may seem like a typical home video: A family enjoying a day at the water park, dressed in swimsuits while waiting for their 10-year-old daughter to come down the water slide. However, when a skinny 13-year-old boy walks in front of the family’s video camera, it changes everything. Everyone watching the video 16 years later would be shocked by what they saw in the seemingly ordinary home video footage.

What was so special about that 13-year-old boy and his oversize glasses? It wasn’t what he did, but who he was. The girl who was whizzing down the water slide would later marry that skinny boy who casually walked in front of her family’s video camera 16 years earlier. However, this Sesame Place love story doesn’t end there.

Married couple, Ryan and Jourdan Spencer, sat down together to watch some of Jourdan’s old home videos. What they found was amazing. The couple discovered that the pair had actually crossed paths 16 years earlier while on family vacations to Sesame Place amusement park. NJ.com reports that both Ryan and Jourdan’s families had taken family trips to the Sesame Place amusement park in Pennsylvania around the same time. However, they never expected so see Ryan in one of the Jourdan family home videos, but that is exactly what they saw. In the video, Jourdan’s mother and sister can be seen waiting for her to come down a water slide. Jourdan was 10-years-old at the time of the recording as she waited for her chance to go down the big water slide. Meanwhile, a 13-year-old Ryan can be seen walking right in front of the camera and Jourdan’s family.

The couple says at first they couldn’t believe their eyes. Jourdan says they kept pausing the video because they couldn’t believe what they were seeing.

“We did a complete double-take. We paused, we rewound, we paused, we rewound, over and over again. We told everyone we knew — and then the tape went missing. We had no proof this whole time.”

Ryan said the video gave him a chill when he first watched it. However, over time, it became sort of romantic.

“I got a chill at first. I couldn’t believe it was me, and then it became kind of a romantic thing.”

The couple couldn’t wait to show Ryan’s family the amazing video. However, their dreams would be temporarily put on hold when Hurricane Sandy swept through the region. Ryan and Jourdan couldn’t find the priceless home video footage, which was housed at Jourdan’s parent’s home, following the hurricane and thought it was lost forever. In Christmas of 2014, the couple decided to pack up all of Jourdan’s home videos to put on DVD to be displayed at a family birthday party. When they received the DVD back, they were surprised to see that the Sesame Place encounter was included.

The couple now has three children together and they hope that the video will be something their children can look back on and realize that the world is not as big as it seems.

“The world is not as big as it seems. I do believe that everything happens for a reason and that people come into our lives when they’re meant to and leave when they’re meant to, and obviously we were supposed to meet again. Our paths crossed more than once.”
