Lance Stephenson Hits Hornets Fan In The Face With Ball, She Was Paying Attention To Her Phone Instead Of The Game [Video]

A woman sitting behind the bench of the Charlotte Hornets may have been filling out her brackets for March Madness while paying attention to her phone, instead of the game, when she was rudely interrupted by a rogue ball to the face. It is unknown what exactly she was doing on her phone that was more important than the action on the court, but if she was paying a little more attention, she might have seen the ball coming at her and moved out of its line of fire.

The painful head shot was caught on video, showing the ball smashing into her face and knocking her glasses from her nose. The woman was focused on her phone, sharing the screen with her friend seated next to her. She had no idea that Lance Stephenson’s pass would be tipped by a King’s player and sail by Gerald Henderson on a course for her face, as seen on WSOC TV. The camera was focused right on the woman as the ball hit her. A man next to her attempted to knock it away but was too slow to react.

The Charlotte Hornets Fan was seemingly more embarrassed by the incident than injured by the ball, shared Metro. Once the shock wore off, she was joking at the situation, realizing she would be the focus of many internet videos and news stories. Event staff provided her with tissues to clear the blood from her face and slow the bleeding.

Rather than become upset and storm out of the building, she stayed to watch the Kings beat the Hornets, 113-106.

The ball hit the woman in the second quarter of the game and did not cause any serious injury. Her nose did become bloody and bruised, but nothing was broken.

It was not revealed whether Lance Stephenson apologized for hitting her in the face with the basketball, or if any other members of either team approached her to see if she was okay. However, event staff was there to tend to her injuries and offer assistance if needed.

Despite the ball to the face, some bruising, and the Charlotte Hornets’ loss, the woman had fun at the game and will remember the night for the rest of her life. It can be safely assumed that she will pay more attention to the game, rather than her phone, during future basketball games.
