Amal Clooney’s New Job: What Does It Mean For Her And George?

Amal Clooney is taking her legal skills to Columbia University Law this Spring. The London-based barrister will set up shop as a visiting lecturer and senior fellow with the school’s Human Rights Institute. That means Amal and George will be living in the same city for at least a few months while he films a new movie in New York.

Amal has some history in the city. She earned her LL.M. degree from New York University and practiced law with Sullivan & Cromwell. In the Columbia news release, she expressed her anticipation of the new role.

“It is an honor to be invited as a visiting professor at Columbia Law School alongside such a distinguished faculty and talented student pool. I look forward to getting to know the next generation of human rights advocates studying here.”

George Clooney, meanwhile, is set to film Money Monster in New York. He is one of the producers of the $30 million film, directed by Jodie Foster. Clooney plays a stock advisor who is held hostage on television by someone who experienced financial ruin after following his advice. He promises to shoot the Clooney character if the broadcast goes dark. Julia Roberts also stars.

Us Weekly reported Thursday that George and Amal are already settled into New York social life. The couple had an intimate dinner date on February 27 and were spotted afterward having drinks with legendary Beatle Paul McCartney. On March 3, George went out for Greek food with actor Bill Murray.

The folks at Columbia gushed about Amal Clooney’s contribution to their team. Sarah Knuckley, director of the Human Rights Clinic, spoke about the impact she expected Clooney to have on Columbia Law’s lawyers-in-training.

“Amal Clooney’s dedication to public service and her diverse human rights litigation experience will inspire and guide our students as they learn how to use the law to advance social justice. We are thrilled to welcome her to Columbia Law School’s community of international law scholars, practitioners, and students.”

Since Amal Alamuddin became Amal Clooney last fall, the accomplished lawyer has been touted as a fashion icon and trendsetter. Recently, she wore a chic casual ensemble while on a Valentine’s Day date with George that had an estimated cost of more than $7,000.

Despite their busy schedules, as George is an actor/producer and Amal is working on high-profile legal cases through her firm in London, the newlyweds are often seen spending romantic time together. George, 53, had a small dinner at home with Amal on the occasion of her 37th birthday in early February.
