Money makes the world go round, and the richest woman in the world, Christy Walton, exemplifies the potential pleasures of raking in the big bucks. She may not be as famous as Oprah Winfrey, but Walton tops Forbes magazine’s list of “The Richest Women In The World 2015.”
Rather than succeeding as an entrepreneur, however, Walton is an heiress, having inherited a piece of the Walmart pie. Her net worth equals a tidy $41.7 billion.
Next up is Liliane Bettencourt, another heiress. After inheriting the L’Oreal cosmetics wealth, the 92-year-old has a net worth of $40.1 billion.
And the third wealthiest woman is related to Christy Walton. Meet Alice Walton, who is Christy’s sister-in-law and the daughter of Walmart’s founder, the famous Sam.
With all these names that the general public doesn’t recognize, how about celebrities? Oprah Winfrey ranks high on that list, according to Celebrity Net Worth.
Oprah is No. 4, with a net worth of $2.9 billion from her books, shows, lectures, magazine, and other media endeavors. The two celebs above her on the list are Steven Spielberg with $3.5 billion, and George Lucas with $4.3 billion.
But the No. 1 richest celebrity winner is (drumroll, please) Dina Merrill, with a net worth of $5 billion. However, Dina’s wealth comes from both inheritances and her own success as an actress.
Daughter of Post Cereals heiress, Marjorie Merriweather Post, and wife of Wall Street stockbroker, Edward Francis “EF” Hutton, Dina has appeared in films and TVshows ranging from Butterfield 8 to The Courtship of Eddie’s Father.
However, it’s Oprah Winfrey who is known for having the Midas Touch, as the Inquisitr pointed out. First, she turned Dr. Phil from a little-known psychologist to a household name by first having him on her show, then gracing him with his own show.
In addition, Oprah proclaimed Dr. Mehmet Oz as “America’s doctor,” putting on the purple gloves and getting up close and dirty with intestinal side of life on her show. And just as with Dr. Phil, Oprah even gave Dr. Oz his own show.
More recently, as Dr. Oz found himself in hot water with charges that he touted weight loss “miracles” that didn’t work and featured erroneous information, Oprah even turned the tables by visiting his show to save the man that she mentored.
