WWE Opinion: Rusev Should Defeat John Cena At ‘WrestleMania 31’ And Keep Streak Alive

Rusev needs to be protected. Perhaps that is an obvious statement, but the WWE has a special commodity they cannot screw up. They don’t often ruin WWE superstars, unless you want to be extremely picky. WWE cannot end his streak like WCW did with Goldberg. Goldberg was not the best wrestler; he might even back me up on that claim. He was hot, which helped immensely during the Monday Night Wars.

Then, a taser got involved, as well as the nWo, and it was all over for Goldberg in WCW. The main difference between the two behemoths is the fact that Rusev can wrestle. He did a great job with John Cena at WWE Fastlane. It wasn’t a 5-star match, but what is outside of NXT these days?

After John Cena vs. Rusev at WrestleMania 31 became a lock; the next step was to figure out a stipulation. Rusev did defeat Cena by making him “pass out” at WWE Fastlane. In an earlier report by the Inquisitr, it will be an “I Quit” match that pits both men for the United States Championship. Looking at past history, John Cena never quits. It’s even been on his t-shirts for years.

That begs the question then, how do you have Rusev defeat Cena in an “I Quit” match? There’s simply no way that will happen. Many of the WWE fans will think it can occur, but my friends, I’m afraid I’ve got some bad news for you.

Just by looking at Cena’s face above, he’s ready to face Rusev at WrestleMania 31. Many think that when Rusev loses to Cena at WrestleMania 31, he will drop off the face of the earth and be forever-sentenced to the mid-card. That’s certainly a possibility, but let’s have an optimistic outlook on life. Rusev certainly does, as he and Lana just bought a house together in Nashville, Tennessee.

The only way to save Rusev from the chance at mid-card obscurity is to have him defeat John Cena and keep his undefeated streak alive. Hopefully, the “I Quit” match doesn’t go on. That, or Rusev could channel his inner-Rock and record Cena saying, “I quit.” That way, Lana gets much more involved and it helps her develop even more skills as a manager.

Having a guy go on a hot streak is a very delicate thing. Goldberg got so over in WCW because of his dominance, short match-skills and look. Rusev isn’t as fierce as Goldberg. However, one with wrestling skill and the natural power to draw heat does have its perks. By praising Vladimir Putin, Lana and Rusev are loathed by much of the WWE Universe.

Hopefully, the first loss of his career won’t diminish his push. It is inevitable though, as everyone will lose eventually. Then again, Curtis Axel is still actively in the Royal Rumble, so anything is possible I’d say. Regardless, WWE found themselves in a delicate situation. Past history tells me that WWE will figure it out. Umaga remained relevant after he lost for the first time. Rusev is as good, if not better than Umaga was too. WrestleMania will be a big moment for Rusev. Let’s hope it doesn’t end poorly.
