“There [at White Hart Lane], we took the lead but, after that, forgot to finish the game and they won it 5-3. But now a final is a different game. It’s nothing to do with the league.”

For Chelsea, the Capital One Cup final is a chance to put the focus back on football. As Phil Lythell of ESPN FC notes, the team has endured plenty of controversy in the last few weeks that has overshadowed an otherwise excellent season.

“Considering the recent controversies surrounding Chelsea, it’s easy to forget that they are actually taking part in a major cup final this coming weekend,” Lythell wrote.

He added, “The last couple of weeks have seen some concerning unsavoury incidents involving supporters, inept refereeing performances and the ensuing incomprehensible disciplinary procedures implemented by the Football Association. Sunday’s Capital One Cup final with Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley has played the part of footnote to the greater story of the club’s on-field woes and feelings of injustice.”

The game is going to be very difficult. They will come here to win in spite of our initial advantage.”
