Major Nelson has given the details on the Games With Gold offerings for March, 2015. Three new games are being offered to owners of the Xbox 360 and Xbox One when the calendar flips over to March.
Microsoft Games With Gold for Xbox One and Xbox 360Major Nelson, or Larry Hryb, made the announcement on his blog today. The three games on offer are Rayman Legends, Tomb Raider, and BioShock Infinite.
Xbox One owners will receive Rayman Legends, the Ubisoft-developed sequel to Rayman Origins. The title, which was originally a Wii U exclusive, was delayed in order to launch on the Xbox 360 and Xbox One along with the PS3 and PS4, as well as Windows. The trade off for the Xbox One version is that Murph, the touch controlled character on the Wii U, moves automatically and the player is given prompts on when to use Murph's ability to interact with the environment. Despite the lack of touch controls, the game is a tour dé force of the UbiArt Framework engine on the new generation of consoles.
Rayman Legends will be available as a free download for the entire month of March.
Xbox 360 owners will receive two titles: Tomb Raider and Bioshock Infinite. Tomb Raider will be available from March 1–15, with Bioshock Infinite available from the 16 to the end of the month.
Tomb Raider is the reboot of the franchise that debuted on the original PlayStation in 1996, launching the adventure game genre. The series would go onto feature 11 core titles with any number of spin offs and two feature films. The reboot of the series in 2013, which is being offered for Xbox Live Gold subscribers, featured a more "realistic" Lara with a more thoughtful story arc and origin story.
Bioshock Infinite was the direct sequel to Bioshock from Irrational Games and Ken Levine. The story took the player down a path of quantum physics, floating cities filled with class warfare, and a girl who could rip the very fabric of the universe. The universe-bending game became a financial and critical success upon its launch.
Xbox Games With Gold is a program that offers free game to subscribers of the Xbox Live Gold program. The games are available for a limited window and, once downloaded, are owned by the account holder and can be downloaded again at any time, regardless of subscription status.
