Iran: We Are Ready To Start Nuclear Talks

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says that his country is ready to resume discussions about their nuclear program with world powers. The last time Iran met with the Security Council members and Germany over its nuclear program was in January 2011. At the time the world powers were offering to give Iran ready to use nuclear fuel rods in exchange for their agreement to send their enriched uranium overseas.

The Iranians rejected that offer and even now refuse to agree to any deal that stops them from being able to enrich uranium. The Iranians claim their enrichment program is to generate electricity for their population. The United states, European Union and Israel contend it is to produce fuel for nuclear bombs.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said,

“It is you who come up with excuses each time and issue resolutions on the verge of talks so that negotiations collapse. Why should we shun talks? Why and how should a party that has logic and is right shun talks? It is evident that those who resort to coercion are opposed to talks and always bring pretexts and blame us instead.”

The United States and European Union have recently slapped crippling sanctions on Iran’s Central Bank making it impossible for Iran to sell their oil in those countries. This will destroy about 80% of their cash reserves.

The sanctions were put on Iran in order to convince them to stop their rush to become a nuclear power and head off military by Israel, The United States or both.

China, who imports massive amounts of oil from Iran has called the sanctions unproductive. Their official news paper today said,

“To blindly pressure and impose sanctions on Iran are not constructive approaches.”
