February has officially become the month of The Sims . EA Games and Maxis have been dropping news and releases on gamers in hopes of making The Sims 4 more attractive to fans who have been disillusioned with the direction the franchise has taken.

The treats for fans of The Sims 4 kicked off right away with a free content patch which added family trees to the game. The addition of genealogy to The Sims 4 will no doubt go a long way to appease fans who focus on family play. Family players were vocal about their disappointment with The Sims 4 , which did not feature a toddle life stage, private schools, family trees, and several other types of content considered essential to the family style of play.

The free content patch also included clothing for sims to wear in celebration of Valentines Day and fixes for several bugs that plagued players.

The Sims 4 news didn’t stop there. On February 4, the 15th anniversary of The Sims franchise, Maxis announced the first expansion pack, The Sims 4: Get to Work . The expansion will add at least four careers to The Sims 4 . When the expansion pack launches in April 2015, sims will have the option to become doctors, scientists, police officers, or to open a retail business. The Sims 4: Get to Work will also add two new skills : baking and photography.

Maxis hasn’t forgotten Mac users. The long-awaited Mac version of The Sims 4 is set to launch February 17, 2015. Ahead of the launch, Maxis and EA Games have announced that anyone who purchased The Sims 4 and The Sims 4: Outdoor Retreat on PC via Origin will automatically receive the Mac version of those games.

There have even been hints that the developers have more treats in store for fans of The Sims before February is over. SimsVIP , a website dedicated to news about The Sims franchise, found a particularly interesting post on the official The Sims 4 forums.

I really hope this actually *means* something for next week. ? http://t.co/nyhi9oRMRI pic.twitter.com/nHIVOIKNF0

There’s no way of knowing what the surprise is, but the current prevailing theory is that Friday, February 13 will see the release of vibrating heart shaped beds, a popular item from The Sims 2 era.

There are signs that the month of The Sims may be working. The Sims 4: Limited Edition holds the number 2 spot on the Amazon best sellers list in the PC games section.

While the avalanche of gifts, discounts, and news may confirm for some that The Sims 4 hasn’t performed as well as Maxis hoped it would, it also confirms that the developers have no intention of letting this game go down without a fight. For now, it’s The Sims fans who are reaping the rewards.

Have genealogy and the new expansion pack convinced you to purchase The Sims 4 ?
