Celebrities Rock The Best Red Lipstick, And So Can You

Katy Perry and Taylor Swift may not be seeing eye to eye these days, but despite their ongoing feud there’s one thing these rockstar ladies can agree on: luscious, red lips. They certainly are not the only ones, either. From the red carpet to fashion week, we’re seeing leading ladies everywhere put their best red lips forward. The best part about red lipstick being on trend for 2015 is that unlike haute couture clothing or designer handbangs, even the best lipstick brands are fairly accessible and relatively affordable.

Who can forget Katy Perry’s stunning makeup as she fired up the halftime show at the big game? MTV got the scoop on Katy’s rockin’ red lips straight from her makeup artist, Jake Bailey. Believe it or not, she was wearing COVERGIRL and you can easily copy her look for less than $24.

“…I lined and shaped her lips using COVERGIRL Lip Perfection Lip Liner in Hot. I then applied a coat of new COVERGIRL Colorlicious Lipstick in Seduce Scarlet—truly a classic red, for a classic Katy look. I topped it off with a tiny dollop of COVERGIRL Lip Lava in Mauva Lava for a fun and bold lip look!”

Who would have thought something so bold could be so affordable?

As for Taylor Swift, she shows us more than just how stunning cherry lips can be in her “Blank Space” music video. All throughout the video, her personality and outfits go through dramatic changes, but her lips remain a constant, bold red. According to Allure, part of what makes her look gorgeous and pulled together (even when she appears emotionally distraught) is her decision to play up the matchy-matchy trend of matching her lip and nail color. The lesson learned? When you find the best red lipstick for you, do not forget to pick up a bottle of matching polish.

Bright and bold may not be easy or best for everyone to wear every day. One of the hottest makeup trends spotted during Fashion Week is the colorfully muted orange-tinted or poppy red. Glamour reports that makup artist Kabuki used matte, orange-red lips for a “soft and easy to wear” look for the Zac Posen runway show.

Over at Carolina Herrera, they got access to some of M.A.C. Cosmetics yet-to-be-released red lipsticks. Look out for these colors, ladies: Divaish, Girl About Town and Make Me Gorgeous. If you have a date night and simply cannot wait, Rihanna’s original Viva Glam 1 in a frosty blue-red is very affordable at $16 and every penny of the sale goes to help support people living with and affected by HIV/AIDS.

For special events, you may want to turn your attention to red carpet beauty and Oscar-winner Lupita Nyong’o. She turned heads at the 2015 SAG Awards with her glowing, neutral makeup tones set off by a bold, red lipstick. Essence asked celebrity makeup artist Nick Barose all about the look.

“I wanted to go with a red lip; nothing is more glamourous than classic red lips and glowing skin.”

To achieve this stunning red lip, Essence reports Barose used Kiehl’s Scented Lip Balm #1 in Cranberry as the base, added Lancome’s Le Crayon Lip Contour in Garnet and topped it off with L’Absolu Rouge Lipcolor in Caprice. Copying this Hollywood-worthy lip look will cost about $65.
