Is Sia’s ‘Elastic Hearts’ Video Pedophilia Or ‘Mini-Me’ Adorable With ‘Dance Moms’ Star Maddie Ziegler? [Video]
Sia is an exception to the rule that entertainment industry success is built partly on a pretty face. The superstar singer is famed for hiding her profile from the public as much as possible. But now she’s also becoming known for a viral video that showcases Dance Moms star Maddie Ziegler in a performance that some are calling adorable — and others are saying is exploiting a young girl in a way that borders on pedophilia, reported the Huffington Post.
The video for “Elastic Hearts” puts 28-year-old Shia LaBeouf with 12-year-old Maddie in a cage. Both performers are wearing minimal attire, which added to the outcries of overly sexual implications.
Admitting that she had anticipated the accusations, Sia posted her views on Twitter. She also offered her rationale for showcasing the two dancers that have such a wide age gap.
“I anticipated some ‘pedophelia!!!’ Cries for this video,” tweeted Sia.
“All I can say is Maddie and Shia are two of the only actors I felt could play these two warring ‘sia’ self states. I apologize to those who felt triggered by [the video]. My intention was to create some emotional content, not to upset anybody. [sic]”
But others felt that the “Elastic Hearts” video was charming, showing Maddie as a “mini-me” version of Sia, according to In Style.
Maddie herself declared that she enjoyed any and all forms of dance since starting when she was only a toddler.
“I’ve been dancing since the age of two. I don’t really remember it, because I was little, but my mom signed me up and would put me in cute costumes. A lot of little girls get into dancing, but I loved it so much that I kept doing it.”
As for the memorable meeting with Sia, Maddie credits social media for linking the two unlikely partners.
“She tweeted me and said that she was a big fan of the show and wanted to work with me. I didn’t really believe it at first,” admitted Maddie.
“It’s not normal for someone to tweet you and be like, ‘Hey, be in my music video.’ I was so excited, and two weeks later I flew to L.A. and filmed the video for ‘Chandelier.’ The first day, we gave each other a big hug, and we’ve been best friends ever since. She’s like my family now.”
Maddie also has appeared on a wide range of talk shows to discuss her experience as well as show off her dance skills.
But she may not have anticipated trying to teach Jimmy Kimmel to dance, shown below.
In addition to Kimmel, Saturday Night Live has become known for showcasing unexpected performers. Blake Shelton, for example, appeared in a daring series of skits that mocked everything from his “bromance” with Adam Levine to Pharrell William’s passion for hats, as the Inquisitr reported.
So SNL added both Sia and Maddie to its list of surprise performers, as shown below.
