McDonald’s Now Accepting ‘Expressions Of Affection’ As Payment Through Valentine’s Day [Video]

From a hug to a phone call saying, “I love you” to someone you care about, McDonald’s will be accepting “lovin'” as a payment through Valentine’s Day. The fast food giant has released its Super Bowl XLIX commercial via YouTube, which details the new “Pay With Lovin'” campaign.

The commercial features unsuspecting McDonald’s customers as they place an order and attempt to pay for their food. However, they receive a surprising bill total. As the video shows, the employee doesn’t want their cash, but instead a show of affection. Employees ring up the customers totals which vary from calling your mother to say “I love you” or performing a group hug.

McDonald’s says they will be randomly selecting customers across the country to pay with this “new form of payment” through Valentine’s Day.

“Starting Feb 2, we will randomly be accepting a new form of payment.”

According to PIX11, the new form of payment is simply being called “expressions of affection.” It is noted that “expressions of affection” could be a hug, kiss, or even a phone call to mom just to say “I love you.” All of which would be acceptable forms of payment for the “Pay With Lovin'” campaign.

So how are customers chosen to pay with lovin’? According to the official promotional rules, winners will be chosen based on predetermined times throughout the day. Each store will be given the time of day that a winner should be chosen and the first person to walk through one of the restaurant customer doorways after that time will be the winner.

Each restaurant will have 100 deals to give away, according to McDonald’s spokeswoman Terri Hickey. The winner will be notified that they’ve won after placing an order or if they attempt to exit the store before placing an order. After being designated the winner, the official “Lovin’ Lead” for the store will designate a task for the winner to perform in order to receive their food for free.

“Once notified by the Lovin’ Lead that they are an unofficial winner, the Lovin’ Lead will ask the Participant to execute a random act of Lovin’ (the “Lovin’ Act”). Lovin’ Acts will be designated by the Lovin’ Lead and may include things like fist bumping the Lovin’ Lead, calling a loved one, telling the Lovin’ Lead what the Participant loves about their significant other, blowing a kiss, or other general sentiment or Lovin’ Act in the theme of the Game, subject to Lovin’ Lead’s reasonable discretion and completed to Lovin’ Lead’s reasonable satisfaction.”

When is your best chance of being chosen to “pay with lovin’?” According to the official rules, each restaurant must give away 55 of their lovin’ offers in the first two days of the promotion.
