Alleged Vanderbilt Rape Victim Didn’t Think She Was Attacked Until She Saw The Videos

An alleged Vanderbilt rape victim didn’t think she was a victim until she saw the videos.

The unnamed 21-year-old said that she and then-boyfriend, Vanderbilt football player Brandon Vandenburg, were together when she reportedly drank “multiple” alcoholic beverages and later awoke in a strange bedroom with no memory of what had happened.

She was clothed when she awoke and didn’t initially think anything criminal had occurred.

According to a report from the Associated Press, she planned to do everything in her power to clear Vandenburg’s name.

“He told me that I had gotten sick in his room and he had to clean it up and that it was horrible and that he had to spend all night taking care of me and that it was horrible…. I apologized. I was embarrassed.”

Surveillance videos told a different story from the one that Vandenburg had reportedly told her about the night before.

Detectives requested that the woman get a physical examination. At first, she refused. Meanwhile, Vandenburg told her that he was probably going to be kicked off the team as a result of the incident.

She texted him that she didn’t want anyone to get in trouble because of her, Gawker notes.

The case picked up steam when Vanderbilt officials “reviewed a dormitory surveillance video following a report of vandalism” and “saw an unconscious woman being dragged into a dorm room. That is when they called Nashville Police, who opened an investigation.”

Other videos were reportedly pulled from a Brandenburg’s cellphone and a laptop. They allegedly showed the accused passing out condoms, “encouraging players to have sex” with the unconscious victim. At one point, they are said to have tried waking up a sleeping roommate to participate, “and allowed one teammate, Cory Batey, to urinate on the victim when they were done assaulting her.”

The woman testified this week before prosecutors rested their case in the Vanderbilt rape criminal trial against Vandenburg and Batey. A separate trial is pending against football players Brandon Banks and Jaborian “Tip” McKenzi.

All four have pled not guilty.

Most of the Gawker comments were shocked not only by the crime, but also by the fact it was her boyfriend who allegedly did it.

“Not that this kind of behavior is acceptable ever, with anyone, but holy s*** — it was his own girlfriend? Imagine meeting her parents, going out with friends, cooking dinner and knowing that you had done this to her the entire time? It’s insane. He’s a f***ing psychopath.”
