Nicki Minaj Ex: ‘I Was The One Calling The Shots’

Ever since Nicki Minaj hit the charts, there have been rumors about her love life. Minaj has managed to keep it private — until recently, that is. Her ex-boyfriend, Safaree Samuels, had quite a few things to share about his life with Minaj.

Minaj originally went public with the relationship and their breakup on Power 105.1 while talking to the show’s host, Angie Martinez.

Minaj and Samuels met well before The Pinkprint star hit it big. Minaj admits to radio host Martinez that Samuels wasn’t just anybody, he was “somebody she grew up with.”

What does she blame their break up on? Short and simple, her answer was “the music industry.” According to Minaj, if it wasn’t for that, she and Samuels would be married with children at this point.

Minaj showed great maturity and openness when talking about Samuels by saying that she was not going to take the situation and “joke about it or try to disrespect him and try to act like he didn’t mean the world to me and still doesn’t mean the world to me.” Her heartbreak was evident in the interview from December. Samuel’s interview, though, was not as emotional.

Samuel sat down with the Breakfast Club at Power 105.1 to give his side of the story. When asked who he was to Minaj, Samuels says the following.

“I was everything … I was the one calling the shots.”

Samuels goes on to say that having Minaj say he has no talent was ridiculous because “every time it came to writing raps and doing music, it was me, her, and the beat.”

He mentions in the interview that he wishes her “nothing but the best,” but also refers to her as “weak” for the things she’s said and done in regards to him.

Samuels also has a different take on why he and Minaj broke up. According to Music Times, “the respect was gone.” Samuels also says that Minaj started treating him “like an employee instead of her man.”

So why is Samuels coming forward a month after Minaj’s interview?

According to All Hip Hop, Samuels was angry when Minaj agreed with comedian Lil’ Duval when he referred to Samuels as being “corny.” Samuels felt that Minaj had tarnished his good name and that he needed to speak up and tell his side of the story.
Whoever’s side you are on, it is apparent to all that Nicki Minaj and Safaree Samuels have had a less than amicable breakup that is most likely far from over.
