R&B star The Weeknd was arrested on Saturday in Las Vegas after allegedly punching a cop. The star, who’s quickly gaining a mainstream audience, was involved in a fight at around 4:20 a.m.
According to TMZ, the fight took place in the Vegas’ Cromwell Hotel. It is not known who was involved in the fight with The Weeknd, or how the brawl was started. When cops showed up to the scene, they attempted to break up the fight. That’s when things got out of hand. The Weeknd, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, allegedly punched a cop in the head. At that point, he was arrested at the scene.
The alleged swipe at the cop happened when the officer took The Weeknd into the elevator to break up the fight. After the punch, the singer was taken to jail for “battery of a protected person.” Fortunately, as it turns out, the police officer wasn’t seriously hurt.
The Weeknd was released on bail, and immediately following his release he took to his Instagram to celebrate. The singer posted a photo of himself heading to a private jet and captioned it with, “escape from Las Vegas.”

@HarveyLevinTMZ I think the weekend blows so at least now he can’t release any new, awful music.

If The Weeknd’s name doesn’t ring a bell, his voice certainly will. The singer’s smooth vocals were featured on the Ariana Grande hit track “Love Me Harder.”
In 2013, The Weeknd released his album Kiss Land, and it was met with positive reviews from critics.
The artist was in Las Vegas for a concert on Friday at Drai’s Nightclub. Throughout 2014, The Weeknd has opened for Justin Timberlake in addition to playing a host of his own shows.
