R&B Star The Weeknd Arrested After Allegedly Punching A Cop

R&B star The Weeknd was arrested on Saturday in Las Vegas after allegedly punching a cop. The star, who’s quickly gaining a mainstream audience, was involved in a fight at around 4:20 a.m.

According to TMZ, the fight took place in the Vegas’ Cromwell Hotel. It is not known who was involved in the fight with The Weeknd, or how the brawl was started. When cops showed up to the scene, they attempted to break up the fight. That’s when things got out of hand. The Weeknd, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, allegedly punched a cop in the head. At that point, he was arrested at the scene.

The alleged swipe at the cop happened when the officer took The Weeknd into the elevator to break up the fight. After the punch, the singer was taken to jail for “battery of a protected person.” Fortunately, as it turns out, the police officer wasn’t seriously hurt.

The Weeknd was released on bail, and immediately following his release he took to his Instagram to celebrate. The singer posted a photo of himself heading to a private jet and captioned it with, “escape from Las Vegas.”
