It appears that WWE isn’t waiting until the Royal Rumble to have Daniel Bryan return to the ring, as they’ve officially announced that Daniel Bryan will be competing in a match this coming Tuesday night in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, during a taping for SmackDown. Bryan’s matched will be pushed as the main attraction for SmackDown’s return to Thursday nights on January 15. Bryan’s opponent has not yet been announced.
Daniel Bryan last wrestled in May of 2014, and at that time he was in a feud with his former tag-team partner, Kane. It’s unlikely that Bryan will return and feud with Kane, as WWE has plans for Kane to feud with the soon-to-be returning Randy Orton. However, there is a good possibility that Bryan’s match on January 15 will be against Kane.
Most WWE fans figured that WWE would hold off Bryan’s in-ring return until the Royal Rumble, but it appears that WWE wants to make sure Bryan is back in “ring shape,” as he’ll probably be in for a long night at the Royal Rumble on January 25.
There have been rumors that WWE will have Daniel Bryan win the 2015 Royal Rumble and go on to WrestleMania 31 to reclaim the WWE championship. But, there have also been rumors that WWE will take the title off of Brock Lesnar, have Bryan not win the Royal Rumble, and go on to face Lesnar at WrestleMania 31 in Lesnar’s final match in WWE before he leaves for a UFC return.
Bryan returning to the ring before the Royal Rumble could have been his own call, as he’s probably anxious to get back into action after missing the last eight months.
Daniel Bryan’s return couldn’t be coming at a better time for WWE, as they’re in desperate need for some new and fresh faces, and while Daniel Bryan is hardly a new face, since he’s missed so much time, he’s definitely a fresh face that will add a lot of excitement to WWE programming going forward.
It’s very likely that Daniel Bryan will appear on Monday’s RAW show to promote his in-ring return on SmackDown. Also, you can’t rule out Daniel Bryan being confronted by The Authority, who will probably name his opponent on Monday. There’s also a chance that WWE could have Bryan wrestle on this Monday’s RAW in an attempt to boost disappointingly low ratings.
