Virgil Philistin: Body Removers For Texas Coroner’s Office Robbed Dead Man’s Home For Credit Cards

Virgil Philistin and Hugo David Smith, two body removal contractors for the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s office, have been arrested for a grave sin — robbing a dead man’s home. According to KEN’S-5, 26-year-old Virgil Philistin and 28-year-old Hugo David Smith were being paid to remove the body of James Johnson, a 40-year-old man who died on December 2. After removing the body, they decided to swipe some goods from the dead man’s home as well.

According to Texas law enforcement authorities, the criminals went back to the deceased man’s home to steal specific items two days after they removed the body. During the robbery, two Playstation consoles, a TV, and credit cards belonging to the victim were taken.

Police were able to track down the two suspects after they tried using the dead man’s credit cards at a Walmart store. Authorities were able to review video surveillance which showed the two men in action.

Police had been alerted that the door was ajar at the dead man’s home. When they arrived, there was evidence of forced entry and missing items inside. Rex Rheiner, Converse Police’s chief assistant, believes that the situation is sad, and that the family should not have to go through such a thing just after losing their loved one in death. Rheiner explained the case to KSAT.

“It’s very sad.()I mean, you’re victimizing the family twice. They’ve already lost a loved one and then you go burglarize their home. The family wanted to give everything to the church, so basically, you just stole from the church.”

Police are now trying to determine how long the two have been working as body removal workers for the county. They are also trying to determine how many more homes have been robbed by Philistin and Smith. The two thieves have both been fired from the body removal company.

Community reactions regarding the strange news are as expected.

“Smh robbed em’ dead”

In other odd news, months ago, Inquisitr reported on the sex abuse lawsuit case involving a morgue worker who had a fetish for having sex with dead corpses as he worked inside of a morgue at the Hamilton County Coroner’s office. The crime was discovered after the man’s wife said that her husband always smelled like sex when he returned home from his morgue attendant job. Kenneth Douglas had been working at the county morgue for over a decade.
