Steven Gerrard: Liverpool Captain Set To Announce LA Galaxy Transfer

Details have emerged that Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard is set to announce his move to Major League Soccer with an 18-month contract worth up to $9 million. Gerrard is set to earn $6 million a year and is expected to release details later this week due to the marketing schedule of the MLS which is projected to start in March.

Steven Gerrard is set to follow former teammates David Beckham and Robbie Keane to the current MLS Cup Champions LA Galaxy. The move means that Gerrard will be used to fill the gap left by MLS’s all-time leading goal scorer Landon Donovan.

The Liverpool captain has now joined noteworthy stars such as David Villa, Ricardo Kaka and former English teammate Frank Lampard to sign for MLS franchises for the 2015 season. However, Lampard is set to meet up with his franchise team New York City FC in July due to his first team commitment to title-chasing Manchester City.

Steven Gerrard’s current Liverpool contract is set to expire in June. The 34-year-old is expected to make the move in summer along with Lampard. Both players still play a critical role in their respective clubs’ ambitions this season. Gerrard popped up again to score two goals to save Liverpool from an embarrassing FA Cup defeat in a 2-1 victory over AFC Wimbledon.

Former Liverpool legend and teammate Jamie Carragher believes Liverpool should have done all in their power to keep Gerrard and observed that had he been ten years younger the club would done so.

Steven Gerrard is currently Liverpool’s leading goal scorer for the season topping the scoring charts with nine so far from central midfield. However, he has been criticized for his lack of mobility due to his manager’s high pressing strategy.

With many noting that the FA Cup finals falling on the Liverpool’s captain birthday, Gerrard will be extremely determine to lift the FA Cup for the third time of his illustrious career and the first in the iconic Wembley Stadium.
