Nicki Minaj Talks Breakup From Safaree Samuels: ‘I’m A Vulnerable Woman And Proud’ Of It

Nicki Minaj finds herself in the news headlines more than most these days, but in a revealing and candid interview with Rolling Stone magazine, Minaj opened up about her true feelings since splitting from boyfriend of 11 years, Safaree Samuels.

It’s no secret to Nicki Minaj fans that the Grammy winner’s latest album, The Pinkprint, is full of emotionally honest tracks about that long relationship, with songs likeThe Crying Game” and “Bed of Lies.”

The 32-year-old artist admitted the following to Rolling Stone.

“One of my goals was to give people a glimpse into my personal life, because it’s something I’ve kept very private. I had to learn to do something as simple as sleep alone. I struggled with ‘Do I express these feelings?’ And I decided there’s no reason for me to hide. I’m a vulnerable woman, and I’m proud of that.”

Following the release of her new album, Nicki Minaj got into a widely reported argument on Twitter, blasting her ex.

“Even when I try to protect ppl, they still try to take advantage of me. Haven’t u learned that God is in control? Stop while you’re ahead. Anything you don’t appreciate will be taken. God sees your ungrateful evil soul. I gave and gave and gave. Threatening me? Blackmail? Jump. 30K watch the night my cousin was killed on the street like a dog. More than rappers. But it was never enough. Don’t make me. Too much love. [sic]”

In responding to Nicki, also on Twitter, Samuels posted the following, although not in very good English.

“im doing interviews about my s**t and s**t im promoting… not 1 thing said im doing interviews about nicki. yall sound ridiculous… and speaking to some1 about pub and splits isnt blackmail. stop looking for pitty… u handle your buisness why cant i? and its not Bout fame its about respect and youve had 0 for me the pass few years.the 0 respect u had for me at home had nothing 2do w/music. [sic]”

There’s little doubt that after being with someone for that long, Nicki Minaj still feels something for her ex, despite her previous Twitter rants, as she said in an interview with Power 105.

“This is somebody I grew up with. Like, I don’t even know how I’m going to function without that person in my life. I never lived my life as a famous person without him. I don’t think people realize it’s not just a breakup, that was a humongous part of my life.”
