Football fans can watch the Capital One Orange Bowl live online and see whether Mississippi State or Georgia Tech can finish their season with a win.

For Mississippi State, the bowl is a bit of a disappointment after achieving their highest ranking in program history. After the Bulldogs beat three straight teams in the top 10 — LSU, Texas A&M, and Auburn — they sat atop the AP poll.

But Mississippi State lost to Alabama and Ole Miss, finishing the season ranked No. 7 and just outside the College Football Playoff.

The Bulldogs will face a No. 12 ranked Georgia Tech squad in the Capital One Orange Bowl on New Year’s Eve. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. from Sun Life Stadium in Miami, Florida.

Despite falling out of national championship consideration, Mississippi State has already enjoyed a number of milestones, including a win over LSU that earned the program some respect.

“Nobody really gave us a shot. They knew we were pretty good. This year was going to be big for us,” sophomore Beniquez Brown said. “Going into LSU really set the tone for us this season. Just winning that game, dominating for four quarters like we did, it set the tone for the season.”

Fans who watch the Orange Bowl live online may see a Bulldogs team with a chip on their shoulder.

“I have no idea how the committee does everything, how they kind of worked it all out,” Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen said of the team’s final ranking. “To be honest, it was more surprising that we were No. 10 last week off of our strength of schedule and the quality wins we had over Top 25 teams and three wins over top 10 teams.”

For Georgia Tech, the game is a chance to help the program stand out, said coach Paul Johnson.

“I think the Orange Bowl has a lot of tradition and history, and a lot of people will be watching the game,” Johnson said. “You know, it gives you a chance to showcase your program nationally.”

The Orange Bowl appearance also helps Georgia Tech earn a bit of an advantage in a very competitive recruiting landscape, Johnson added. Georgia Tech has had difficulty recruiting from south Florida, Johnson noted, but the bowl appearance may help change that.

“This year, we may not have some,” Preston said. “Next year, we may have two, three guys.”
