The Animal Protection Association is now searching for the cruel dog abusers who attempted to kill an innocent pregnant dog. According to Right Wing News, the abusers taped the dog’s mouth shut with fireworks before igniting it. As a result of the heinous act, the poor dog reportedly suffered a broken jaw and severe burns inside of it’s mouth. But, that’s not all.
After medical evaluation, it was also determined that the dog, who has been named Chola, had suffered abuse prior to the incident due to missing teeth and fur. The dog’s evident fear toward humans is also a strong indicator of previous abuse.
Veterinarian Miguel Davila shared details about the dog’s condition with Mail Online. In addition to the horrific injuries, the dog may also lose her litter of puppies. Davila also revealed that the dog may have been a “bait dog,” which is commonly used to train and prepare other, less aggressive dog breeds for dogfights. However, when she became pregnant, there was probably no further use for her so the abusers simply decided to kill her.
“She was very badly hurt,” Davila says. “It looks as if she may survive now but will no longer be able to have a life on the street and may well still lose the puppies. Many of her injuries, such as a torn ear, are old ones. We believe she was used as bait in dogfights but then became no use when she got pregnant.”
Rebecca Reyes, Animal Protection Association director, also weighed in with details about the dog’s current condition, the medical attention she’s receiving, and her behavior toward humans.
“We have given her a name, called Chola, but to be honest we are avoiding as much contact with her as possible as she is extremely nervous of anybody that she doesn’t know well,” said Reyes. “She cannot swallow any food because her palate was burnt badly together with her tongue and so we have to feed her baby food liquidized. She also needs painkillers constantly and unless is tranquillized does not allow herself to be examined.”
