DeMarco Murray: Medically Cleared to Play Against Colts?

There has been much speculation about whether DeMarco Murray will be fit to play against the Indianapolis Colts, given his injuries. Though Murray has been injury-prone, as of December 19, he was medically cleared to play.

However, even though doctors say that he is capable of playing, it doesn’t mean that he should get right back out there by going “zero to 100.” Likewise, CBS Sports reports:

“Murray has been medically cleared to play, but the official decision won’t be made until Murray tests his injured hand during pre-game work outs.”

If the Dallas Cowboys would be able to pull off the win without Murray, would it not be wiser to save him for the playoffs? That’s when each game is “go hard or go home,” literally. With DeMarco Murray’s recent luck, it would be horrible if they play him in the game against the Colts, and he ends up re-injured.

Similarly, one Cowboys staff writer, David Helman , states:

“I know DeMarco Murray and Zack Martin might play hurt, and Doug Free doesn’t look likely to play at all. I wouldn’t feel good about that if this were Week 3, but the end is in sight. If the Cowboys can find two more wins – or potentially even just one – they’ll have reached the playoffs. That in itself is some strong motivation, especially since the Colts are already in the tournament, and they’ve got injury problems of their own.”

Likewise, the Cowboys have a tremendous amount of fan support. As can be seen from the team’s Twitter page, it has engaged a hashtag campaign which reads: #FinishTheFight.

Encouragingly, it is definitely a fight. When DeMarco Murray is on the field, it seems like any running game is possible. That being said, this could possibly be one of the best Cowboys teams in years; surely in the top ten. Various records have been surpassed by both Murray and Dez Bryant. Yet, as this is a fight, and the Cowboys are a team, Murray could very well opt to play, says ESPN Insider, Adam Schefter.

DeMarco Murray has high threshold for pain. Said one source: “We primarily left it up to him, in which case he will definitely opt to play.” — Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) December 19, 2014

If that’s the case, the team and fans can only hope all goes well during the game. The playoffs are only a few weeks away. As is known, Murray is a key player in the team’s success this year. Hopefully, he can #FinishTheFight.
