The delayed fourth Assassin’s Creed Unity patch wasn’t delayed very long. Ubisoft released the latest fix Tuesday to the open-world action-adventure game on the PlayStation and Xbox One. PC gamers will still have to wait a little while longer. Does it bring the promised performance improvements? Initial reports indicate yes.

Patch 4 for Assassin’s Creed Unity weighs in at 6.7 GB. According to the release notes posted by Ubisoft, this is due to “replacing and updating portions of the Paris city map” where players were seeing issues with frame rate and performance.

Xbox One owners are reporting that the patch is showing up as a 40 GB download, however. A Ubisoft representative posting on NeoGAF says that this is a display error though and the patch is indeed the prescribed size. However, other NeoGAF users are reporting that they’ve already passed the 6.7 GB mark.

At a high level, Patch 4 aims to correct frame rate drops, game crashes, and lost progression. It also updates some gameplay items such as navigation and lock picking, but also addresses connectivity issues and co-op matchmaking.

Those that have gotten their hands on the patch have confirmed that performance has improved. Texture pop-in is still an issue, but the frame rate has gotten better.

On Reddit, gamegard1 said, “Just played for an hour with patch 4 installed, the frame rate seems to be more steady. Definitely an improvement.”

On NeoGAF, Ferr968 wrote, “Really fast impressions from 5 mins walking around Paris. It definitively feels smother now. Still there’s some drops in the big crowded areas, not as much as before. Still need to check the most problematic areas.”

“There are still frame drops in the entrace [sic] of Notre Dame with all of those NPCs, but way less than before,” he continued. “Overall it seems to improve the framerate in all cases but don’t expect steady framerate everywhere.”
