Erica Garner Says Father’s Death Is Not A ‘Black And White Issue,’ George W. Bush Sad Over Race Riots

Eric Garner’s daughter, Erica Garner, says the death of her father is not really a “black and white issue,” and instead blames police officer Daniel Pantaleo in a different manner. Former President George W. Bush was interviewed about the recent race riots, and he revealed his thoughts about both the Garner grand jury decision and the Ferguson riots.

In a related report by the Inquisitr, NYPD officers are reportedly claiming that Eric Garner was “too fat” and was essentially responsible for his own death. Garner’s wife has also responded to Pantaleo’s apology for the death of her husband.

Patrick Lynch, president of the Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association, responded to the grand jury decision by praising the actions of the NYPD during the recent protests.

“We feel badly that there was a loss of life,” said Lynch according to NBC News. “But unfortunately Mr. Garner made a choice that day to resist arrest. It’s also a tragedy for this police officer who has to live with that death. You cannot resist arrest. Because resisting arrest leads to confrontation. Confrontation leads to tragedy.

In a recent interview with Don Lemon, Eric Garner’s daughter rejected the notion that the death of her father was racially motivated, suggesting instead it’s not a “black and white issue” but rather an issue of “pride” or ego for Pantaleo.

“I really doubt it,” she said, “It was about the officer’s pride. It was about my father being 6’4? and 350 pounds, and he wants to be the top cop that brings a big man down.”

But former U.S. President George W. Bush seems to believe that race play a factor in some way.

“I thought how sad,” said Bush, who recalled his response to seeing the police officer putting Garner in a headlock. “The verdict was hard to understand…. It’s sad that race continues to play such an emotional, divisive part of life.”

Bush also spoke to former secretary of state Condoleezza Rice after the grand jury decided not to indict police officer Darren Wilson after he shot and killed Michael Brown.

“She said, ‘You’ve got to understand that there are a lot of black folks around that are incredibly more and more distrusting of law enforcement,'” Bush said according to CNN. “Which is a shame, because law enforcement’s job is to protect everybody.”
