Tea Leoni, Tim Daly Take Romance Off-Screen: ‘Madam Secretary’ Stars A Couple

Tea Leoni and Tim Daly play an on-screen couple on the CBS hit series Madam Secretary, but now the duo are romancing each other away from the set. Us Weekly reported on Wednesday that Leoni and Daly are now dating in real life. This news comes just months after Tea Leoni’s divorce from David Duchovny became final. Leoni and Duchovny were married for 17 years, and they have two children together.

On Madam Secretary, Tea Leoni stars as Elizabeth McCord. The character is brought in as Secretary of State after the last person in the post dies in a suspicious plane crash. The President of the United States comes to her directly to take on the job, and she accepts the offer. This leads to a move for her family. There is more to her character though. She is former CIA, and her husband, who is played by Daly, is former NSA. This caused some interesting problems for the couple.

It is during her moments away from work that fans see the chemistry between Leoni and Daly, and the chemistry on-screen between the pair is undeniable. The couple has dealt with difficulties since the Season 1 of Madam Secretary began in September, but they have stuck together and worked through their problems.

Their chemistry has led to an off-screen romance. One source spoke about the couple’s chemistry in front of the camera.

“Their chemistry on set is electrifying. They have an amazing time filming.”

Leoni and Daly are not hiding their romance either. Leoni was spotted out with Daly in November, and one witness called the pair very “couple-y.” The two were walking together on Venice Beach with their arms wrapped around each other.

Tim Daly did speak about the couple’s chemistry on the series and working with Tea Leoni in an interview with Collider.

“It’s great. It’s so funny, we went to the same high school, years apart. It was a very unique boarding school in Vermont. She’s a person, like me and like a lot of people who have gone to that school, including my own daughter, who can be perfectly happy sleeping in a wet sleeping bag on a stone floor, or staying in a fancy hotel. She’s not a whiner. She wants to work hard and she wants to have fun. We get along really, really well. We have a really good time. I’ve gotten along with plenty of people, but the chemistry sucked. And I’ve hated people where the chemistry is great. It’s much better if you get along and the chemistry is good. That’s perfect.”

In a more recent interview with ET Canada, Daly revealed that the goal of the the people behind Madam Secretary was “to have a relationship that is really passionate, but functional.”

As for Leoni, she only recently opened up about her split from David Duchovny. Leoni and Duchovny first started having problems back on 2011. The couple separated then, but their divorce was not final until August.

During promotion for Madam Secretary back in September, Tea Leoni spoke out about the couple’s divorce, according to the Inquisitr. She revealed that their relationship is still amicable. She went on to say the following to Parade Magazine.

“David gave me the two greatest gifts on the planet; I don’t know how I could ever hate him. We’ve always loved each other, and we adore these kids. I’m not playing stupid. I understand feelings can get hurt and things can get icky. We’ve had our moments like that. But these kids are too important, and he feels the same way, I know it. He’s a good guy.”

Since the series premiered, Madam Secretary has booted CBS’ Sunday night ratings. The show’s time slot is up 47 percent from last year, according to TV By The Numbers.

It looks like CBS has a hit. In addition, Madam Secretary has helped start a new romance. On-screen couples taking their romance off set is not something new. Fans will need to keep tuning in to see Leoni and Daly on Sunday nights.
