Lauren Hill Cancer: 19-Year-Old Hill Goes On Hospice Care As Cancer Tumor Grows

Lauren Hill is battling cancer, but has signed up for hospice care. According to NBC Sports, this was something that Hill has been planning since October but was pushed back because of Hill’s want to play basketball. The 19-year-old is suffering from an inoperable form of brain cancer called Diffused Intrinsic Pentene Gleoma. While her condition is terminal, she has chosen to continue living her life to the fullest and to raise awareness and money for DIPG so that one day, there might be a cure.

As a college freshman, Hill has been trying to participate in regular activities (like sports), but her journey is changing, and she has had to make some adjustments along the way.

Lauren Hill’s family posted the following cancer update on Facebook on Tuesday.

“Monday we signed on with Hospice. Originally this was planned to be done at the end of October or Early November but got side barred due to the big game. We are excited to have additional resources coming to our home. We have already been able to get supplies to help make things easier here at home. We have had another step down from steroids. She went from 5 mg in am and 5 mg in afternoon to 4 mg / 3 mg and now we are currently on 3 mg/3 mg. There has been know [sic] major changes in symptoms. Her headaches have flared up a little more than usual and balance issues just depend on the day and how tired she is. The two big issues is sleeping and constipation. Her stretch marks caused by steroids are becoming worse and we have to slather aquaphor on them to keep them from splitting open. (Attached picture of the inside of her thigh.) Overall she has been in good spirits this week and staying busy with special projects. In a funny, goofy mood tonight. I will give you a picture of that too. [sic]”

Lauren Hill’s cancer has brought awareness to thousands of people. According to ESPN, her efforts have helped raise over $324,000 for cancer research and treatment. As previously reported by the Inquisitr, Hill was recently honored by Wheaties. The basketball star was featured on a one-of-a-kind box and surprised with it.

Many people love Hill’s story because her drive to live despite having a major setback is simply amazing. Hill doesn’t want sympathy, she wants to do something special while she’s here, and that is exactly what she is doing.

Hill made headlines last month when she played in a Division III Mount St. Joseph’s basketball game. She has since been able to play in a few more games, and played quite well considering the circumstances.
