Arrested: Woman Protested Obama’s Immigration Plan With Gun

A woman from Michigan was spotted with a gun outside the White House, apparently part of a group protesting Obama’s immigration plan. Secret Service agents arrested the woman, named April Lenhart, just moments after President Obama finished his speech Thursday night.

Ms. Lenhart has at least one supporter, her pastor Larry Survance, who says that he “baffled” by the incident.

“All I can say is that at church, she’s a wonderful young lady.”

According to MLive, he went on to say that the Michigan woman had a close knit family that “pretty much sticks together.”

Nevertheless, she’s still facing charges of carrying a gun without a license. Legal analyst Charlie Langton told CBS News explained the situation.

“Secret Service noticed she had a gun in a holster attached to her hip. She was taken in for questioning and arrested when it was found out that she did not have a license to carry that firearm.”

The 23-year old Lenhart was part of a group outside the north fence of the white house protesting President Obama’s immigration plan.

Lenhart is reportedly not cooperating with authorities, so they have not yet determined a motive for why she was carrying a gun that night. Officials say that Obama, who was inside the White House at the time, was not in any real danger.

President Obama was busy laying out his strategy to use executive orders to overhaul the immigration system. He said that deporting millions of immigrants is simply “not who we are” as a nation. According to the New York Times, Obama called on Americans to have empathy for those people crossing the border.

“We shall not oppress a stranger for we know the heart of a stranger — we were strangers once, too.”

He went on to detail a plan that will effectively shield five million undocumented immigrants from deportation, similar to a strategy leaked early as reported by the Inquisitr.

Republicans have answered back with protests and threats to use congressional powers to fight the president tooth and nail.

Now, President Obama will have to convince Americans like Ms. Lenhart that his immigration program is legal and right. If the Republican response is any indication the country may be in for another long and drawn out debate, similar to months of fighting over the Obamacare legislation.

There’s no evidence to suggest that April Lenhart had any violent intent with her gun, but she’ll be one of the people Obama has to convince to make his immigration plans successful.
