‘G I Joe 3’ Cast Rumors: Could ‘GoldenEye’ Director Take Over?

G I Joe 3 cast rumors have arisen once more, but this time it’s not entirely about the actors involved. It seems John M. Chu could be stepping down after his critically slammed attempt at the last movie, making way for another director with a mixed history.

Martin Campbell could be at the helm of the next film in the series, the director of the greatly applauded James Bond films GoldenEye and Casino Royale. Unfortunately, he was also behind the Ryan Reynolds superhero flop Green Lantern, a film which actually competed with Batman and Robin as the worst DC Comics movie ever made.

It is apparent that Campbell has a range of possibilities, and if he’s taking charge of Hasbro’s next on-screen battle, it could save or destroy the series.

Returning to the G I Joe 3 cast will be Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and possibly Adrianne Palicki, who played Roadblock and Lady Jaye last time, respectively. It was also suggested by the Inquisitr that with the upcoming film centering around Roadblock, it could be set on a Southern U.S. story location including the possible introduction of the “punk/redneck” terrorists, the Dreadnoks. With Zartan (Arnold Vosloo) having already been introduced in Retaliation, it would seem to be a logical continuation of the G I Joe storyline.

No negotiations have been known to have happened toward putting Martin Campbell in the director’s chair. Paramount Pictures and producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura allegedly want him there, so the job will fall in Campbell’s lap if he wants it.

The G I Joe 3 cast could also bring back Duke if Channing Tatum decides to return, with a story common to the comics about having come close to death and surviving in spite of it. It somehow happened with Storm Shadow, who allegedly “died” in The Rise of Cobra and returned without any solid explanation in Retaliation.

Fake deaths happened all the time in the comics.

Channing Tatum has already been chosen to play Gambit in future X-Men movies partly due to his Southern roots. He could add a similar element to the G I Joe 3 plot being written by Jonathan Lemkin, whose previous works include Lethal Weapon 4, Shooter, and The Devil’s Advocate.

Aside from the return of Dwayne Johnson and writer Jonathan Lemkin, everything we believe we know about the upcoming G I Joe 3 cast and director is based on rumor and speculation.

What do you think of GoldenEye and Green Lantern director Martin Campbell possibly taking the helm of G I Joe 3?
