Ryan Gosling Turned Down Sexiest Man Alive Title Several Times

If there’s anything that has been nailed into our heads it’s Ryan Gosling’s sexual appeal. Ryan Gosling is sexy. For some this statement is simply an opinion, and to others it’s gospel. So why hasn’t he claimed his rightful place as People’s Sexiest Man Alive?

Gosling should have the title by now. He’s had time to break out with the 2004 romantic film The Notebook, and by 2011 he had cemented himself as a critically acclaimed indie darling and bankable actor with Crazy, Stupid, Love and Drive.

Well, according to The Wrap, sources close to the situation said Gosling has turned his nose up at the honor. In fact, the source said the actor has been approached several times for the Sexiest Man Alive title, but has declined the offer year after year. Jeez, can’t People just take a hint?

Still, Sexiest Man Alive has some serious bragging rights, but Gosling isn’t interested. “They tried a few times, especially during his huge year in 2011. Multiple efforts were consistently squashed by the actor’s team.”

The source continued to explain the negotiations that never came to be. “The consensus was he’s too serious for it, too artsy.” This isn’t too hard to believe as Gosling has never taken his sex symbol status seriously, and usually tries to be evasive when asked about his appeal.

Despite the source’s omission, People magazine are disputing these claims and say they aren’t true. People‘s editorial director reached out to The Wrap for a statement. “While I look forward to the day when Ryan Gosling is named Sexiest Man Alive, this was not his year. Our 2014 honoree Chris Hemsworth was our first and only choice. If you want to know why, just look at him. I mean, seriously.”

As for this year’s Sexiest Man Alive, Hemsworth has a sense of humor about the title. The Australian actor joked to People magazine the new title gives him some power with his wife Elsa Pataky.

“I think you’ve bought me a couple of weeks of bragging rights around the house. I can just say to her, ‘Now remember, this is what the people think, so I don’t need to do the dishes anymore, I don’t need to change nappies. I’m above that. I’ve made it now.”

Although the odds of Gosling’s mug on a Sexiest Man Alive cover are slim to none, fans are still holding out hope.
