Police Hunt For Suspect Who Pushed Man In Front Of Train In NYC

New York City Police have released a surveillance video of a man who is suspected of pushing another man off a subway platform to his death.

On Sunday, while standing with his wife at a Bronx station, 61-year-old Wai Kuen Kwok was pushed without warning onto the tracks of the D train, as it was entering the station. Kwok’s wife, who was physically uninjured, told police that the act was unprovoked. She was taken to a local hospital and treated for trauma.

Authorities state that the suspect immediately fled the station then hopped onto a bus, reports Fox News.

The suspect is described as balding and dressed, at the time, in a leather jacket, dark pants, and white sneakers.

Kwok was a father of two. He was from the Bronx and was employed in a factory in Brooklyn. Kwok was standing on a platform at the Grand Concourse in the neighborhood of Highbridge when he was pushed to his death. He was struck by the train at around 8:40 a.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His death was immediately listed as a homicide, reports KTLA.com.

The motorman, who witnessed the push, slammed on the brakes, but it was too late. Kwok was struck by the first car of the train and several of the cars then rolled over him.

Police dusted the bus for fingerprints on Sunday night, according to the Post.

While choking back his tears, Kwok’s son spoke to the New York Post, and said that his father worked long hours in a kitchenware factory. He explained that his father was on his way to Chinatown with his wife to do grocery shopping, which they did weekly, using the subway as their means of transportation.

“He wanted us to be successful. His plan was to work and get his sons through school,” Kwok’s youngest son told the New York Post.

Over recent years, there has been three other incidents that involved individuals being pushed off platforms and in front of oncoming trains.

Back in April of 2013, a man was pushed off a subway platform by a homeless man who he had been arguing with on the platform. In December of 2012, a homeless man was arrested after he pushed a man to his death in front of a Times Square train.

Later that same month, a woman pushed a man to his death in front of a subway in Queens.
