Kim Kardashian To Appear On Indian ‘Big Brother,’ But The Nude Photo Fallout Continues

Has the controversy in the United States finally gotten to Kim Kardashian, or is she trying to take over the world?

The Hollywood Reporter recently broke the news that Kim Kardashian will appear in the eighth season of Bigg Boss, the Indian version of long-running reality game show Big Brother. The announcement was made via an official statement by Viacom18’s Hindi entertainment channel Colors, and included a statement from Kardashian made in Hindi.

“Namaste India… main Kim Kardashian aa rahi hoon Indi… Bigg Boss ke ghar mein. (Greetings, India. I, Kim Kardashian, am coming to India, to the house of ‘Bigg Boss.’)”

The appearance, set for November 22, will mark Kardashian’s first trip to India. Kardashian may just need the time away because her usual low level of controversy boiled over this week.

It started with a champagne glass. Specifically, the champagne glass balanced on Kardashian’s famous rear end in the winter issue of Paper Magazine. The photo spread, which features Kardashian draped in sequin black fabric, but other wise completely nude, broke the internet because so many people were viewing and commenting on the photograph at the same time. The photographs kept Kardashian’s name in the forefront of celebrity and conventional news for most of the week. Even when people didn’t want it to.

E! Online news reported that Kardashian participated in the racy photo shoot for free, just for the chance to work with French photographer Jean-Paul Goude, but even Kardashian reportedly “doing it for the art” didn’t sway some people’s opinions of the photographs, or of Kardashian herself.

Glee star Naya Rivera voiced her displeasure in an Instagram comment, saying, “I normally don’t. But… you’re someone’s mother.”

According to Us Weekly, after a flood of negative comments from Kardashian supporters, Rivera posted a mea culpa of sorts to her own Instagram account, a photograph of herself with her mouth covered.

The history of the photograph is also raising controversy. Reportedly, the shot was a recreation of a photograph Goude took in 1976 entitled “Carolina Beaumont, New York,” featuring a naked African-American woman balancing a champagne glass on her rear the same way Kardashian did. The similarities between both photographs and the story of Saartjie Baartman, a 19th century sideshow attraction from Africa known for her oversized backside, have made many people uncomfortable and have some shouting “Racism!”

Kardashian is staying quiet about the controversy surrounding the photographs, preferring to flood her Twitter and Instagram accounts with pictures of daughter, North West, and advertisements for her siblings’ business ventures.
