Is Rosie O’Donnell getting fired from The View? It’s not that hard to believe. Since O’Donnell has had a major hand in The View’s reboot the ratings have dipped, and if producers really wanted someone to blame, O’Donnell could be an easy target. As it is she’s been relatively tame with her opinions during hot topic conversations, which might add to the decline in ratings for the veteran show.
According to the Daily Mail, ratings are actually lower from last year and because of that, this might mean The View is looking to shake up their panel once again. Network insiders say O’Donnell is the one on the chopping block but the star is “unaware that there is talk of her being fired and replaced in the hopes of boosting ratings.”
So who might step in for Rosie O’Donnell? Well, it looks like it might be a few familiar faces — Sherri Shepherd and Joy Behar. We have no idea why two people would replace one member of the panel, but according to sources it’s to generate buzz about the show again.
“Both Sherri and Joy had huge followings while on the show and their familiarity could be just the thing to spark interest in the show again and generate some positive buzz.”
The source continued to explain ABC’s strategy. “ABC conducted focus groups on the new version of The View and found that the audience hates that the show seems so serious now so there’s a charge to get back to the pop culture and social issues that younger viewers can relate to.”
As for Rosie, well, one source says that she’s aware of the ratings but doesn’t want to touch it. “Despite Rosie’s reluctance to discuss that type of stuff, she doesn’t have much room to fight it now that the ratings have dropped so badly.”
As for hopes that Sherri will return, viewers shouldn’t hold their breath. The former panel member told Steve Harvey on The Steve Harvey Show that leaving was meant to be.
“It was hard leaving The View. I was with The View for seven years. God said it was time to go. If you don’t go when God says go, you’re going to be in a lot of trouble if you stay. I’ll watch The View on TV and I’ll sit there and I’m throwing out jokes.”
Here’s what a few viewers think about Rosie on The View:
I think adding Rosie O’Donnell to the co-host desk was great choice because it may bring younger viewer base to the show. #TheView
