WWE Hits $1.5 Million Mark For Susan G. Komen Foundation For Breast Cancer Awareness

Over the course of its three-year partnership with the Susan G. Komen Foundation for breast cancer awareness, WWE raised $1.5 million by the end of October, foundation head Nancy Brinker said on twitter. Pwinsider.com reports that she thanked WWE for their continued commitment to raising awareness for breast cancer.

In the three years that WWE has partnered with the Komen foundation, more importantly, as WWE Chief Brand Officer Stephanie McMahon points out, they helped raise awareness of the disease to the millions of fans that tune in to WWE programming every week, a significant portion of whom are female.

“Susan G. Komen has truly transformed the world’s support for breast cancer research and awareness. WWE is exceptionally proud to continue our partnership with Komen and be at the forefront of this movement, as we continue to utilize our global platforms to raise awareness and funds for a disease that affects so many people.”

For the last three years, WWE has raised the profile of the Susan G. Komen cause by changing their ring ropes and entrance lighting color to pink; the color which symbolizing the fight against breast cancer. WWE also rebranded the majority of their merchandise for their top tier personalities with the signature pink, and donated all sales of the rebranded merchandise sold through the month of October to the Komen foundation, as well as five percent of the sales from all other merchandise. This year’s motivational phrase for WWE’s Komen branded merchandise is “Courage. Conquer. Cure.”

WWE’s top superstar, John Cena, has been at the forefront of the WWE/Komen partnership, adding the cause to the list of many the wrestling legend supports. Cena is the all-time top requested Make-A-Wish grantor with a number that eclipses all other celebrities with over 400 wishes granted, a number that continues to climb thanks to the tireless drive and compassion exhibited by Cena, an outstanding representative of WWE’s commitment to philanthropy.

According to the Komen website, approximately 1.2 million new breast cancer diagnoses were made in 2012, about one percent of which are diagnosed in males.

While Breast Cancer Awareness month ended in October, Komen branded WWE merchandise will remain on sale through the company’s WWE Shop while supplies last. Proceeds will continue to benefit the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
