Macaulay Culkin’s Band Pizza Underground A Joke? ‘Home Alone’ Star Discusses Acting Again

Macaulay Culkin’s band tends to put off many people, unless you are Ninja Turtle. The Pizza Underground is either completely hilarious or completely dumb depending on where you’re coming from, but to Culkin that’s all part of the joke.

In a related report by the Inquisitr, the obsession with the Pizza Underground reached a tipping point where even a video of the Home Alone star eating pizza became trending news. Unfortunately, Macaulay Culkin’s death hoax is all too believable based upon his alleged history of drug abuse.

As everyone knows by now, Macaulay Culkin became famous for his role as Kevin McCallister in Home Alone and sequel Home Alone 2: Lost in New York. He is also known for his roles in Richie Rich, Uncle Buck, My Girl, The Pagemaster, The Good Son, Party Monster, and the music video for Michael Jackson’s “Black or White.” Unfortunately, life as a child actor reportedly was not that great, and he retired from acting at age 14. The way he was treated by his parents as a child actor reportedly had Culkin refusing to visit his dying father.

Although Culkin’s acting career is what built his personal fortune, which allowed him to pursue projects like Pizza Underground, he says he does not miss being an actor.

“I haven’t pursued an acting job in years and years and years,” he said. “My friend calls me a ‘man of leisure.’ I read, I paint, I write. Occasionally I’ll sing in a pizza band. And then I’ll go off to Paris for three months. I’m living the dream.”

Of course, not everyone understands his dream. Macaulay Culkin’s band was pelted with beer bottles at one disastrous concert, and fans booed them off the stage. According to Culkin, the reaction seems to be based on whether the audience is in on the joke.

“Either they get the joke or they don’t get the joke,” Culkin admitted while explaining the history of Pizza Underground. “We just did two little open-mic things in New York last November and then recorded about eight minutes of (video) stuff in my living room and put it up on the Internet and totally forgot about it for about a month. We were just messing around, you know? Next thing I know, the Internet got its hands on it and it became a ‘thing.’ ”

The basic concept behind Macaulay Culkin’s band is to create cover songs of the Velvet Underground except switch it up with pizza themes. Thus, you end up with ludicrous-sounding songs like “All Pizza Parties,” “Papa John Says,” and “I’m Beginning to Eat the Slice.” Culkin understands that his name brought a lot of attention to Pizza Underground, but his focus is on having a good time.

“When people come specifically to see us and they know what we do already, people have a really great time,” Culkin said according to QCTimes.com. “We’re not trying to set the world on fire with our musical talents or anything like that. We’re just there to have a good time. Let’s all sit around and eat pizza and sing about it. We’re not trying to reinvent the wheel.”
