Avengers Age Of Ultron Theories: How Will Loki And Heimdall Fit?

What can top a leaked Avengers: Age of Ultron clip? Leaked Avengers: Age of Ultron casting news.

In a recent interview, British actor Idris Elba dropped a whopper of a spoiler on Marvel Cinematic Universe fans eagerly awaiting the release of Avengers: Age of Ultron. “I’m in [Avengers 2]…” the 42-year-old actor revealed. “…and I’m doing a scene with Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston.”

The simple statement sent Marvel fans into a flurry of speculation. Tom Hiddleston and Joss Whedon both confirmed in 2013 to Entertainment Weekly that there were no intentions of Loki appearing in Avengers: Age of Ultron with Hiddleston saying:

“Here’s the thing: I don’t think there’s anything else Loki could contribute to The Avengers, narratively. Joss gave me so many wonderful things to do in that first film that we’d only be trying to repeat ourselves, and probably less well in the second one.”

Of course, that was in mid 2013, before the release of Thor: Dark World. At that point, there was fan speculation that Loki would not survive the events of Thor: Dark World. It’s possible that Hiddleston and Whedon’s denials were an attempt to obscure Loki’s chances of surviving the Thor sequel.

There are varying theories about how Loki and Heimdall will fit into Avengers: Age of Ultron. Nerdist theorizes that both characters may be part of the traditional post-credit scene in Avengers: Age of Ultron. The Marvel post-credit scene, often a pair of scenes, typically shows characters after the events of the movie and set up the next film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The most recent Marvel release, Guardians of the Galaxy, did not tie into the greater Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, the post-credit scenes of Captain America: The Winter Soldier featured Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, directly linking the events of that movie to Avengers: Age of Ultron.

A post-credit scene would make sense, but there is another theory that would make just as much if not more sense. Scarlet Witch has the ability to alter reality. In the leaked footage of Avengers: Age of Ultron, Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark mentions something the “Maximoff kid” showed Thor. Scarlet Witch’s given name is Wanda Maximoff. Could the scene that features Loki and Heimdall be Scarlet Witch showing Thor a vision of Asgard fallen to ruin under Loki’s leadership?

The theory may seem odd, but consider that Marvel post-credit scenes typically set up the next film in the universe. At a recent event, Marvel released it’s movie slate through 2019. The next movie due for release if Captain America: Civil War. It’s unlikely that Loki, Thor or Asgard will figure into a Steve Rogers movie.

Find out exactly how Loki and Heimdall figure into the Marvel universe when Avengers: Age of Ultron hits theaters May 1, 2015.
