Paul Kitterman: Missing Denver Broncos Fan Said He Wandered Off To Find ‘Somewhere Warmer’

Paul Kitterman disappeared from a Denver Broncos game this week and now the 53-year-old father explained his mysterious disappearance — he wanted to walk somewhere warmer.

Family members said Kitterman went missing during the game on Thursday night, an unusual event for a man that they described as reliable and level-headed. After a search that stretched across the state, Kitterman was found 100 miles away in Pueblo, Colorado, walking in a K-Mart parking lot.

Paul Kitterman told police that he “had his fill of football and decided to go for a walk,” according to a statement.

“He wanted to walk ‘somewhere warmer,'” the Pueblo police statement read. “Kitterman mentioned sleeping in treed areas and in bushes during his journey to Pueblo and even mentioned disposing of his Broncos hat as he did not want to be recognized.”

Police said Paul Kitterman was able to speak and answer questions intelligently, and asked if he could call relatives to pick him up.

Friends of Kitterman, including his stepson Jarod Tonneson, said they still don’t know exactly why Paul walked off.

“Right now we are still unsure what happened to Paul. We know he is very tired. We are not certain of what has happened but we know Paul had some sort of breakdown,” Tonneson and friend, Tia Bakke, also at the game, said in a statement to ABC News. “We are moving forward and taking all of the appropriate steps to help Paul.”

But family members tried to deflect attention, asking for privacy in the disappearance.

“We know there are many questions that some of you may have but for the time being we are asking that you respect [their] privacy as they have been through a lot,” the family wrote on a Facebook page dedicated to finding Paul. “We love all of you and we will never forget your kindness, compassion, and your willingness to help us find Paul.”

Police said Paul Kitterman will not face any charges after wandering off at the Denver Broncos game.
