Daddy’s Girl? Kim Says North West Will Get A Job, But Kanye Sets Aside $10 Million For Her ‘Spending Money’
Are Kanye West and Kim Kardashian at an impasse over their kid’s future? Kim’s on record saying she wants baby North West to get a job, but Kanye’s insisted on putting aside a cool $10 million so that she’ll never have to work a day in her life. Who wins out?
The answer, of course, is North West wins — no question. Being born to Kanye West and Kim Kardashian is the sort of birth lottery that makes one think North must have been a saint in a former life. Little North will have all of the advantages — and the pitfalls — that come with fame from birth, but her mother Kim says that she’ll do her best to keep the West child grounded.
“I was saying that earlier to my friends,” Kardashian told ES Magazine last week, “‘I wonder what [North’s] first job is gonna be.’ And they were like, ‘What? She’s gonna have a job?’ and I was like, ‘Are you kidding me? Of course she is.’ She will have to work for what she wants.”
Kim says that she had to work for the things she got when she was coming up, and the reality star sees no reason things should be different for her and Kanye’s daughter.
“I saved up for this Dolce & Gabbana dress I really wanted, or like in high school these Prada shoes that my parents wouldn’t buy me. And I remember they were $400, and I had to save for the entire year to get them.”
On the other side, though, there’s Kanye West: fashionista, rapper, artiste, and proud papa. Hollywood Life pointed out that it was Kanye’s idea for both he and Kim to set aside $10 million — $5 million apiece — for North West’s massive trust fund.
“[Kanye] and Kim already put aside $5 million each into an account for her,” one source said, “that she can have free and clear when she turns 21.”
Kanye’s reasoning: he wants to make sure there’s no chance his baby girl will find herself in the poorhouse.
“[Kanye] wants her to always live the life she’s going to be accustomed to,” the source continued. “That’s just spending money for her when she reaches 21. They got a whole lot more set up for her in case something were to happen to both he or Kim.”
Ten million worth of spending money? That would buy a lot of Prada and D&G.
“That’s just how Kanye is,” the source said. “He’s got it to spend and he’s living like a king and he wants the same for [North].”
Still, Kanye’s forward thinking excess doesn’t exactly jibe with Kim’s you-will-work-for-it attitude. Since the trust fund is said to already be a done deal, it looks like Kanye won out on this round so far but it remains to be seen whether Kanye will bow to Kim’s wishes when it comes time for North to start asking for some haute couture gear just to wear out.
